i have come across a 1958 ford 332 interceptor is this worth grabbing..i would think parts maybe quite difficult to comeby...thoughts
Do you mean 332 interceptor? They were just a smaller version of the 352. This was the first year of the FE motor. Had a 58 two door that had been a border patrol car that was very fast.
Depends on where you want the project to go and the condition of the 292. What do you want to end up with? either engine is fine for a daily driver. The 332 will make more power if you need it.
The 58 332 is a good engine I have had a few of them over the years. Be sure to get it complete as there are a few parts that may be hard to find. If I remember right there is what is called a cam ****on and spring that rides on the timming cover to keep the camsaft from riding forward. If the motor is cheap enough then go for it. But for the most part I'd go for a later 352 or 390 as parts are much easier to find and cheaper plus more power for the money.
Be a good swap and a simple one. They little FE was a good mill and parts not that hard to come by at least no harder than anything else. If its not stuck and you can get it worth the money snag it.
I found out he is asking 1500 but complete top to bottom and runs well...seems a little steeeeeep though
Most of the 332 engines had solid lifters and adjustable rocker,s. A 58 332 should be painted green. The 352,s where painted blue. $1500 is quite a price unless it brand new reconditioned. OldWolf
I wouldnt waste my time with a 332 when the same can be had with a 390. I would stick with the 292 and warm that up a bit. Sometimes I wish I would have put a Y-block in my truck, it would probably still have one in it if it came with one and not a 6 banger. Whatever you do dont put a small block chevy in it!!!!!!
That is steep. The only person who will be interested in that is a restorer or some Bonneville guy looking to build a small inch FE. I would put the money into your 292 and modernize it internally with old school on the outside.
Whatever you do dont put a small block chevy in it!!!!!![/QUOTE] I would put my manhood in a meat grinder before that wood happen..LOL
IF you want some good help on a rebuild, try Matt @ Victory Machine (507)532-2436 in Marshall or Lance at Line Performance in Wright (218)357-2210
Hey fellows. I'm new to the group. Found this thread about the 332 intercepter and have questions. I am in the process of a rebuild on my 332. But I'm having trouble finding a few parts. Can you help me? I am rebuilding back to stock so no race equipment is needed. I'm looking for: cam sprocket camshaft connecting rod bolts and a cruis-o-matic rebuild kit Do any of these overlap the 352 parts? Is anyone with a 332 (9.5 compression ratio) having trouble running today's fuel? Ken
Ken, Try doing an introduction before you jump right in. Not doing one makes you look like a chumbolone. To answer you question. The 332 is a member of the FE series of engine, which has gotten very popular. For the camshaft and cam sprocket, you are best upgrading to the post 1964 FE style. This will require you to tap (7/16 UNC) the two oil gally plugs next to the cam in order to install the thrust plate. Once that is done, you can run any of the FE camshafts offered by Comp, Elgin, Edelbrock, or any one else. The cam gear can be found at any Auto Value, Napa, etc. The thrust plate can be had from Survival Motorsports (http://www.survivalmotorsports.com/ ) Con Rod Bolts = ARP, end of story. The cruiso rebuild kit can be had from Broader Performance (http://www.broaderperformance.com/en/) The 352 and 332 are both FE's, and thus share all parts except the crankshaft (and possibly rods). The only difference is the stroke (3.3 in vs. 3.5 in.) Good Luck
Thank you for the reply. Sounds like a simple sweet solution. I will see into doing that exact modification. Sorry about the lack of a good introduction. For something quick, I'm 57 and been messin' with cars a long time. Restored a few of them mostly but not entirely for myself only. Presently have 4 old fords, 55 customline, 58 500, 57 tbird, and a 65 tbird. Thank you for the suggestions. Hope I haven't thrown a rod here. LOL Ken
