Here's my 27'RPU w/a 302. >> *quote* Why would anyone & most everyone try to compare the 302 Ford with the SBC 327 & 350 ? Fords comparison motor would be the 351 Windsor ! It's not complicated 351 & 350 a correct match. Compare the 302 with the 305 SBC & now it's a correct match. Apples to Apples > >>305 is a 'dog' compared to a 302! jmo.
Yeah! it has an HEI but it is Ford blue This is the Intake manifold that will do much better than the standard Performer will it is made like the Weiand Stealth used to be with front and rear water passages (see Pic) Holley changed the design to be cheap and eliminated the rear water passages in the newer Weiand intakes. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Speedway-2...645094&hash=item590bac5bbe:g:HB4AAOSwzFVa44V2
Here are a few more pictures. I have surprising little pictures of the engine. It's a little hard to get different angles because the engine compartment is very narrow.
Im putting a '875.0HO in my '29 truck. Check out my pics and ull see it all dressed up. And, the others are right, HP all depends on how much money you want to put into it. They are very reliable if treated well and wont let ya down. Kevin
here is mine. firs one is what i started with two weeks ago. then the next two are what it looks like today after i put most of it together. then a close up of what i did with my valve covers. cant wait to hear it run!!
Those look like Ford's 5.0L HO covers that came on the '87-'93 Buttstangs... Made out of diecast aluminum..
Ehh, not '87-'93 Mustang, and they don't even look like aluminum, judging from the stamped-steel rails. Anyway, here's my favorite SBF, and yes it's mine, and yes it's in a non-HAMB car.
Friends dont let friends drive fords with chev power !! lovin my sbf 397 hp rear wheel hp never any regrets
putting a 289 in my 48 f-1 have a gm front clip wondering what to do about oil pan as the front sump pan won't clear .....what have you others done for this ??? i know i am not the only one thats done this.. thanks john GREAZY HUBCAPZ CC EAST TENN
Early broncos and some later trucks have rear sump pan, you will need the proper pump pickup as well. Search the HAMB I am certain there is a very detailed list. Here's one: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=260466
They are the stock covers that came on my motor. Which is out of a 86 tbird. Then I just mounted some customline script to them.
I had a 302 in a Mazda pu when I was just out of high school and until I got all the bugs worked out it overheated to the point of shutting off.......EVERY time I drove it. And I drove the piss out of it. Still, after probably 50 serious overheats, the thing just kept on going. I fiannly got a big enough radiator for it and a good electric fan and all was well after that. I have a ton of respect for the 5.0
Go with the Ford, they run great. Here's the '64 289 with the smaller 5 bolt bellhousing in my '57. SPark
Here's the 302/5.0 engine that is in my current 56 F100 project...a little more bling than most HAMB projects but it works for this truck.
I've worn out a couple of 302s in my cars, and am currently running a 302 in my roadster and a 351W in my '40 coupe. Great motors, excellent parts availability, and they mate to the AOD transmission, which allows sporty gearing around town (3.90 and 4.57 gears), and lazy gearing on the highway (overall ratio in fourth gear 2.60 and 3.04).
A roller cam 302 will make an easy 350-375+hp with just 9:1 compression and 87 pump gas. Plus they are fairly lightweight around 425-450 lbs with aluminum heads and intake.
I've had a lot of 289 / 302 and 351w in a lot of different rides. built right they are a great motor with great dress up and go fast gear available. here a few pix of my latest build. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Is it reliable, come on man its a ford so of course it is, We have owned heaps of small block fords over the years in all sorts of cars and they run strong all day long, lighter than a chevy to.
Can't come close to that blown beauty, but what the heck, here's what I have in the Morris. In it's 3rd year and other than twisting off the distributor gear and sucking in a (wrong) intake gasket, it just goes.
