Looking to see some examples of clutch linkage off of a 39 style pedal going to a SBC/BBC with any type of "pull" clutch arm converted to "push" style if you have them. Or is there just a kit I can buy to not have to use a hydraulic clutch? M
helped a friend do a 6 spd behind a bbc in a 39 with org pedals. made a bracket to mount master next to brake master
My son and I installed a 5.0 Highway Patrol crate engine in his '65 Mustang, with a 5 speed ******. No way to link clutch, TCI back East told him flat out he'd "have to use their kit!" I laughed, then headed for the Pick-n-Pull yard and snaked a late Mustang clutch cable, armored the firewall with a small 4"X6" plate of .125" steel, threaded the cable thru to the stock pedal, which I welded an ear (1/4" X 1.25" strap) onto the top of the pedal boss. (just cleared the cowl skin!) The bottom went down thru the factory hole in the bell housing, but I mentioned that it could have been a home made bracket if the hole wasn't there...Connected the end to the fork, and it worked out nicely. Cheap, too. (the length of the upper pedal bracket was 1" from the weld at the pedal boss to the center of the eye)
I have '40 pedals but a similar idea might work for a '39. My '40 Ford has a SBC/3550 (almost a TKO. I made a lever to change the direction and amount of pull and added a cable stop to the frame. The lever is attached to the stock clevis location on top of the pedal and warps around the back to pick up the cable below. I think '39 is a bit different in this area. The cable is for a V8 Monza, as is the bellhousing. Original bells are still out there but every one I ever saw was cracked. This bellhousing has the fork pointed down at 7 or 8 o'clock to clear the brake pedal and the pivot is on the p***enger side so it pulls forward.
