Hi, Can anyone tell me if they use this process? http://www.woodgraining.com/woodgraining.html I just discovered it through a HAMB thread and think it looks great, But 1) it isn't cheap to set up 2) I am in the UK so have additional h***le purchasing especially as I would have to get the basecoat mixed as aerosols cant be mailed abroad So can anyone tell me if it works and whether it is a good investment as I would be interested in graining all sorts of things if the process gives an authentic finish. Thanks for any feedback on this potential purchase
I'm too cheap for that high priced stuff. You can buy a woodgraining tool to do the same thing but it takes some practice. You are paying for a silkscreen type stencil in stead of a tool.
I've got one of Jdee's kit, and it works GREAT! Makes it easy to perfectly reproduce woodgrain, without any artistic talent. Consistently. AND you can pick what type of wood you want to reproduce. I would just recommend getting color codes from Jdee, instead of buying paint from him. You can go to your local autobody supply house and get them, instead of shipping paint across the Atlantic. There is a large choice of paint manufacturers, colors, paint types, that will work with his kit.
Thanks for the vote of confidence chopolds, I will start saving up and will purchase soon. I agree it wouldn't make sense to have the paint shipped over, but it would be illegal anyway as they only sell it in aerosol form and that cant be flown over.
I use the grain-it system and love it! It's the only way to go! It's worth saving for! I have done and seen many brush and squegee jobs and they just don't compare to the authentic plate and roller method used by Grain-it.
there is a process called hydrographics http://youtu.be/zIBiG_u0_wA also in the latest rod and custom (august 2011) it has an ad for Juliano's that does it. www.julianos.com
I've got an older kit from JDee, and it definitely works. Restoration quality wood grain can be produced. You could ask if he still has any of the water based inks available. Shouldn't be a problem shipping them. Aerosols can probably go by surface, but that will probably take 6 weeks or more. Is it a "good investment" ??? Depends on how much you will use it.
