Do I need a rebuild-distributor GM?

Lots of rust and rust dust in the rotor. The vac advance curve kit is fairly cheap... but do I need more than that? Can I check the current vacuum advance (I heard you can **** on the port of the mechanism and if it moves it works). Does this sound right?

    How do I check this?

blow the rust off with air, spray it with lube then put a vacuum pump on the advance see if it moves, and holds.

I'd definitely replace the cap and rotor. Those don't look too hot, and they are cheap to replace.

If the pump moves, but slowly moves back is it bad? Should it hold under vacuum?

I'll be looking for a rebuild kit I guess.

Those advance weights look pretty sloppy on the pivot pins. Don't put too much money in it; I still find them at swap meets for $5-$10.
