Hey guys, worked my tail off for 6 weeks repairing all the rust, dings and dent on my Desoto. I've heard this car is very rare because it's a coupe. Any truth to that?
Knock out, very cool choices of colors. My little knowledge of MoPars is what I have been told on these 50 hardtops. Some 50 hardtops were done late in the model year and introduced in the 51 line -up, may be rumour and not fact. At any rate your ride is beautiful and love the three piece back window. Very awesome orphan ride. Atta Boy!! ~sololobo~
'50 coupes aren't rare but 2 door hardtops like yours are. Were they called Sportsman yet in '50? I agree that the cowl should not be painted. If there's no where to cut the paint line off at the cowl, then the cowl and windshield pillars should be body color. The odd two-toning ruins what is otherwise a very clean looking paint job.
Production total 4600. Convertible and station wagon are rarer, plus the factory 8P limo is extremely rare with production runs under 800 for each variant (we have one).
Ya know! The cowl panel was my choice to do something different! When you see the car in person it looks very cool! Nothing like busting your *** getting a car done, putting up on this site to show it off, and then recieving b.s. comments from some. Extremely rare!! Has the "white cowl panel" paint option. Only one like it. Come on man! I'm sorry I didn't follow what every single two tone car! JEEZ! <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
they are not b.s comments, they are opinions, and everyone has them.if you put your work up for thousands to see you will get a lot of them.nobody said the car looks like ****,so stop whinning.
Who's whinning! Those are my opinions to! My problem is the fact that its not right to rip on a fellow gear head doing something different! The one off comment pissed me off
If you are gonna post up pictures you have to be open to criticism man, good or bad, it comes with the territory, fellow "gearhead" or not. You did something different, you like it so why get angry, its the opinions of others. And as far as being different, sometimes, just because you can doesnt mean you should. I dig the car and the color but the cowl throws me off also. But hey man its your car and you dig it so run with it.
Sportsman Coupes are pretty rare, I like it! Nice colors. I also do not like the cowl choice but who cares - it's your car so my opinion is not important. Now go drive it like you stole it. My car's a Club Coupe: My Chrysler is painted (well... rattlecanned very badly) in the same way when it comes to the cowl:
Not to stir the pot, I think it's a very cool car. I like the color and the white top, but (here it comes) I think the windshield posts and cowl should be the burgundy color also. It would make the hood look longer and not brake up the side profile. Just my opinion, but I would love to own it!
Great color choices that really look good on the body but you are going to need a real thick skin if you don't want to get pissed off every time someone makes a "should have done" comment about the cowl. That really detracts from a really nice car in most every one else's eyes. As others said, some times making things different just to be different may not be the right thing to do. My truck is a nit picker magnet and while guys are always picking up on the ideas used on it there is that cadre of individuals who are drawn to it so that they can hunt for things they don't like about it. I learned a long time ago just to blow it off or I would be in a fight every fifteen minutes.
I have been on the look out for a nice Desoto for quite some time now. If you were selling that at a show, and asking a"restored"price,I would be turned off by the paint scheme. I would automatically knock off about $1500. to fix it. I have also turned down 4 or 5 Desoto's because they had a Chevy engine in them. Stock or Hemi is the only way to go.
I like your color choices, but I also am jumping on the cowl band wagon....sorry. Earlier body style but an easier on the eye transition.
Looks good. 2nd tone to the bottom of the A pillar would be cool, but cowl is alittle much. Your car, be proud.
