Hopefully i can find some engine brackets that can mount to the stock 235 motor mounts, if not might have to do some modifications. so far ive learned alot from everyone, and im hoping to learn more.
Thanks jim appreciate that i couldnt figure out how to do that! ya i hope it doesn't turn into a year long job on jack stands. i picked it up for $800.00 came with everything except the motor, trans, and a few misc. parts missing.
Nice start. My first ride 51 years ago was a 53 Chevy 4dr 210 also. Good luck with it and keep us posted.
Thanks man, i will do! im pulling the engine apart and resealing it and cleaning it up today, as the build goes ill keep posting pics. thanks again jay
Yeah, but it's a four door. Just kidding! I love my four door. If you need any parts hit me up and I'll see what I can find.
Nice score Jay...there are a ton of parts for these cars and I've seen people make them into 2 doors, which is pretty sweet. I just got my 53 4 dr 210 back in October and I've already swapped the front to disc brakes and picked up a 350/Saginaw 4 speed/68 Camaro rear end for mine. If you need parts, let me know. I'll be snatching out the motor in the coming weeks and selling the entire driveline...including the stock motor mounts if you need them.
Here are some pictures of the few styles I have played with. The first is when I got it, the next is it's quasi-hot rod stage, next is the four door cruiser family road trip car phase. I think I'm likinng this one best, mild custom, with a bit of travel memorbilia thrown in.
thanks everybody, ya i hope im not in to far over my head! but i got good people and good advice, to help me out on here! plus i gotta handy uncle thats pretty good with these ol rods. pics coming as the build ensues. thanks heap jay
man.. nice deal for $800.. Clean it, drive it, and keep it as it is.. Maybe lower it a little bit.. and by god--don't paint the rims like that second photo you show.. that thing looks pretty nice even though it has two too many doors!
It looks pretty solid. Clean up a little, lower it a bit and drive the damn thing! It looks like your pretty off to a pretty good start. Search the classifieds for parts, and use the search function at the top of the page. There are thousands of threads for these cars. Have fun and keep us updated!
thanks guys for the support! today i got the engine torn apart and resealed, cleaned, and painted. Im unsure as to what color to paint some of the components to off set the grey, but i'll worry about it later. heres some pics http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/a460/riverside63/IMG_0509.jpg http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/a460/riverside63/IMG_0510-01.jpg http://i1037.photobucket.com/albums/a460/riverside63/IMG_0511.jpg
i got it out of a 76 c10, running! rough but running, with a 3 speed trans. for $400.00 and a brand new shifter and assembly.
Did it come mounted? the new style 6's are quite a bit longer than the stock one, and they are a bitch to get to fit right without some decent mods... i had a 49 chevy coupe that we put a 250 in, and it tok some creative work with the radiator support to make a radiator work.
Naw it was sitting in the dudes yard, but ya i heard it was a pain! Another cool member on here suggested moving the radiator forward, or getting an electric push fan. i think i might go with the fan as well.
Would an 88 gmc 373 rearend 2 wheel drive work aswell when converting over a chevy 250ci inline 6? Or does it have to be a 4x4 rear.
Here's some pics of the progress i've done so far, not much but pretty good for the first time ever rebuilding a car.
Looking good. Al builds go on hiatus for a while, but sometimes you cant rush perfection. Keep the pics coming.
Good day sir, I actually just figured out that the trans mount thats on my cross member wont mount to the trans i have.... so here goes the search for one that fits. Also think i might need a new carb as well, but just short on cash so hopefully, it wont take me another 3 months to find one.. Other than that i think 'im okay, as far as getting it running and driving goes.
