Wondering if it's only me, but if I had the cash I would be all over this car. IMO it has to be the coolest car I've seen. check out the last picture as it was found. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0591131241&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Nice, but it's not an Austin Healey. It is a Healey. Donald Healey built cars with Riley drive trains prior to his hooking up with Austin. This is one of them, A Healey Westland.
It never ceases to amaze me the knowledge on this board. Thanks for the clarification. I do love the lines whatever the lineage.......
I spent some time as parts manager for two British dealerships, I worked at a shop that restored and serviced Austin Healeys, owned a few, drove and worked on about a zillion of them. We had a customer with a Westland, a regular roadster version. I may be the only American, on the HAMB, that has driven a Healey Westland. Cool cars, very rare, especially over here
I've had five AHs...put an sbc in every one of them. Donald Healey designed a classic the the 100-4, 100-6 and early 3000s (I despise the rollup window models). That woodie is too sweet. Just flows well, and the wood sets it off so beautifully. dj
Just wondering...if you had to guess, how many Austin Cambridge MKII would you say are in the U.S.? We have a '59, its a really cool car, looks like a shrunken 57 chevy if you ask me, Thanks PS, the woody is amazing!!
A90? Rare car in America, but my Vauxhalls I think are rarer still, I know of 7 PAs in America. Would love to see pics of it! A 59.. is it a Farina? There's about 10-15 MG Magnette Farinas in the coutry and maybe 2 or 3 Rileys, Probably 50 or so Vanden Plas Princesses (I had one) and probably 50 Austins. Looks like that was a Healey that was bodied into an Estate or "Shooting Brake" by an outside Coachbuilder. You actually saw this a lot during the 50s on British cars. The factories really didn't build Estates. Mk2 Fords (Zephyr/Zodiac/Consul) Estates were made by Abbots of Farnham. Vauxhall PAs like mine were done by Friary of Basingstoke and they even made one for the Queen, and she still has it. I have seen Austins, Rover P5s and P6s, etc all done into estates. Lynx even made Jaguar XJ-S estates! As a general rule these cars have become really rare and collectible. Since these were generally handbuilt they were really expensive, think of those Cadillac Station wagons of the 70s, so very few were built. The most valuable and desirable Vauxhalls like mine are the Friary Estates, and by a big margin; they're the "holy grail" of PAs.
I had an Austin Cambridge. One of the biggest POSs that I ever owned. In a fit of insanity I traded a lovely "Harry Potter anglebox" Anglia for it. I drove it for a month and gave it to my brother. He still hates me. I know there is one less now as it went to the scrapper
The BJ7 and BJ8 convertibles were nice, especially in bad weather, but they didn't really do it for me either. I've seen and driven a lot of V8 Healeys, some very nice, some not so. They have their place and they go like stink, but when you take out the six, you rip the soul out of it. Few cars sound as sweet as a Big Healey running through the gears. A few tweeks here and there and an overdrive out of an early three speed BN1 (higher ratio than the four speed cars) and it'll cruise at 90+ plus all day long
Shouldve added, A55 to my post, so yes a Farina....Its all here except for the seats, and hub caps. All these BMCs are probably POS, but I do love them so, I have a total fatal attraction for them, we also have a 59 Metropolitan, 63 Sunbeam Alpine 3, and a 65 Midget.... sorry for the slight hi-jack
I'd drive the hell out of that thing....I think I'm in love. It's a weird kind of love like that movie 'Pumpkin' where Christina Ricci falls in love with the retard...
59 is an early Farina... Those parts ought to be really easy to find in the UK, shipping is going to cost a fortune though. Seats would be the least of my worries tho, it's rot that would scare me. A55s are slow but the drivetrains are borderline indestructible. As for that Healey, It's not at $45,000... it's at a bit under £27,000... I would be shocked if that car didn't stay in Europe.
Very cool, and definitely too early to be Austin Healey. Long before Healey joiined forces with Austin. I think Healey joined with Austin in 1953.
Hey, If the world were a kind place, I'd be driving that Healy now If ya loiter on ebay uk as much as I do you'll see all kinds of ''interesting'' shooting breaks, estates, funeral coaches & coachbuilt vehicles. Everything from Alvis, Jensen, MG, Rolls Royce, Riley, Humber, Lea Francis, Jaguar & the post war BMC builds as well. Sometimes ebay france turns up a weirdo as well! Pleace don't cuss my ass for the bizzilions of hours you'll piss away @ this..........hey, it's more fun than golf, and ya don't have to ware silly shoes! " Life ain't no Disney movie "
Don't know what this woodie was, but this picture was taken in the pits at Paramount Ranch in 1957, That's the hood of Duffy Livingston's Eliminator in the foreground. Unfortunately, no front end to aid in identification, but I guess the ass-end qualifies as an Austin Healey woodie!
http://www.watcheditem.com/ I just use this site and go to the country you want to look in and the catergory (IE atuo or Ebay motors) and the most watched items will pop up usually about 3 pages worth. It gets alittle tricky if you want to look in Italy or some country where the catergories are not in english but it is a good waste of some time. Forgot to add that after you get to the "ebay motors" page then you go back to the catergory again and you can break it down further to cars & trucks or boats etc,,,,,,
I wish you would spell the name correctly ...its Healey not Healy... And yes, for those of us named Healey it does matter.
My Healey is part of that family. My Riley powered Healey is called the Sportsmobile. Twenty four were built, five survive. This is one of five Brooks Stevens, the designer of the Excaliber, was the original owner of this one. It arrived for the 1948 NY Auto Show and he bought it there. No others were sent to the USA https://picasaweb.google.com/rjdenton479/MyCars?authkey=Gv1sRgCIDLi6q0gYfz9AE#5078322005523246098
WOW! Wow... just fing WOW. Oh, as for the pre-resto pics of the Healey Shooting Brake, no surprise there, the Brits restore stuff that we wouldn't consider using as parts cars.
