when replacing the wiring to the starter tonight i managed to break the plastic cap on the back of the solenoid, so heres the question can you replace the solenoid with out removing the starter? can you replace just that cap?

    this is on a 62' chevy 327

You gotta replace the solenoid, it can be done in the car and it only takes twice as long as it does if you pull the starter.

how dificults is it to pull the starter on a sbc? my previous car was a pain. seems like you had to disasemble more than you would think to get it off.

shouldnt be that hard, 2 bolts up from the bottom and maybe a brace off the front.

takes longer to get it on stands than it does to remove the starter.

It can be done. With the manifold removed is easier. Do yourself a favor, just remove the starter and consider installing a complete new solenoid on it.

Easier on the bench...when the 3 screws are removed retaining the solenoid, rotate the solenoid body 90degrees
