Event Coverage ACME SPEED SHOP - sets out for Santa Maria

Were heading up the road to the WCK Santa Maria show this morning. This has been a Father/Daughter weekend trip for many years; starting when she was in 5th grade. My daughter Emily and I Make this trip together just the two of us. I'm happy that she still likes to hang out with me even though she is now a senior in college.

We are driving the Acme Coupe (36 3-window) and my good friend Doug is driving the Acme van with his little boy Aiden. Doug's GF, Dawn is following in their daily driver.

I'll post photos of our trip for all of you that are not able to make it. As always we promise random shots of road trip, cars, people (girls?) and whatever we see.

I'll start it off with the jumbo air freshener we made for the van.

Hey everyone, we made to Santa Maria with no problems. The drive took over six hours with all of the traffic we hit. There was a dark shadow on my heart all day with the news of my friend Eric's death. The paramedic that was on scene ***ured me he died instantly on impact so at least he did not suffer and I hear that his wife Kat, although in ICU, will survive the injuries.

Remember to tell those close to you that you love them...you never know when it is our time.

John,We are so sorry that your friend Eric died today. We hope that Kat has a quick recovery. I am not so good with coming up with words for this type of accident.

my thoughts and prayers are with you John. Its hard to come up with the words to experess how you feel when such an accident occurs but i send my heartfelt condolences. Most of can only hope to go quickly and painlessly and also while doing something we loved. There is no explanations as to why such things occur but the higher power must have bigger and better things for him to take care of up there. I'm sure Eric would prefer that everyone dedicates their travels to the show to him and enjoying old cars...the way he did. In the sorrow of such events I hope this trip can be made a joyful one in the celebration of what Eric loved. Best wishes

Damn it......this is the second time I've had to fix a picture in one of your threads!!

 

Nicely put,farmergal.Maybe something could be done @ the HAMB meet & greet,today.Maybe raise a gl*** to a fellow hot rodder or a minutes applause?(this is done alot in the UK,when an old sportsman dies)

 

Losing a close friend or family ****s. No matter the cir***stances. But in the end, it brings people closer and bonds are made stronger. At my dad's memorial, most of our car friends wore car show shirts and drove their old cars. I know my dad would have preferred that over suits.

You guys are doing exactly what your friend loved. He's probably up there telling you guys to keep doing so. Remember to celebrate that your friend lived a life loved by many and did what he loved to do. Take this time to really strengthen bonds with your daughter, family, and friends.

Life on this world is just way too short. Prayers go out to Eric's family as well as his friends. Be safe, y'all, and enjoy the trip.

Glad to see your trip to Santa Maria was good. Emily is a real cutie, my daughter is my co-pilot on my car adventures and we really have great times. Dad Doug and lad Aiden are lookin very happy as well. I am glad you are with friends for this weekend to help heal from the loss of your dear friend. Be strong kiddos.
