New Engine Oil Tech

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Traditions Racing, May 27, 2011.

  1. Here are some new or maybe not so new formulations for you flat tappet guys. Yes these have sufficient amounts of Zinc and Phosphates, or ZDDP as some have come to know. First is Lucas RACE ONLY, they have a Conventional Petroleum 20w-50, a semi-synthetic 20w-50, full synthetic 10w-30 and 20w-50. Next I found is Joe Gibbs racing Oil, he has the HR series HOT-ROD oils. HR 1&2 are conventional, and HR 3&4 are synthetic. Each one is available in either 10w-30 or 15w-50. And last is a offering by Comp Cams, I have not yet had the chance to see who is the actual manufacturer, but it is labeled Comp Cams Engine Oil, and available in 10w-30 and 15w-50. This is not just a break in oil.

The Joe Gibbs Oil is great, they also offer break in oil to prevent flattening your cam on initial break in.

  3. Welcome to the HAMB bagged, they all have many great products. There has been alot of discussion here about the ZDDP additives, so I thought I would research some of the new oils that won't require any additional additive.

  4. Edelbrock has also come out with w line of oil. they make a HIGH PERFORMANCE SYNTHETIC ZINC ENHANCED FORMULA (SAE 10w40) and a HIGH PERFORMANCE ZINC ENHANCED FORMULA (SAE 10w40) along with HIGH PERFORMANCE PREMIUM BREAK-IN OIL (SAE 30) and HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE OIL SUPPLEMENT WITH ZINC ADDITIVE
These are all made for them by Torco to their specs.

I use Brad Penn racing oil

  7. Thanks for contributing ecode, most of us here have been familiar with the Brad Penn for sometime now. I was trying to bring to light some other brand and possibly newer formulations of oils. Thank you, TR

  8. Sorry I can't run new engine oil, in order to be traditional I have to use only oil manufactured back in the day. I'm actually in the same boat with gasiline if anyone has any 50 year old gas laying around.

    Traditions tanks for the info.

  9. Well I'm 53 years old, and after some broccoli and a couple Egg McMuffins, there will be plenty of gas for everyone I assure you. Look out OPEC, I'm coming through. Too much information I know.

  10. Not for me it aint, now I know what not to let you eat on a road trip. :D

What about Brad Penn? If cam manufacturers recommend it, it's good enough for me.

You have got to be a dealer, I checked the Joe Gibbs website, at $120.00 per 12 quarts they should throw in a rebuild kit, I'll stick with my Brad Penn....................

Beaner..I got some 48 year old stuff...I could Fed X it to you...and you might get it in two years...Interested???

  14. No, a retired engineer, thank you. I have NO financial interest in ANY of the company's listed,--------- END OF DISCLAIMER----------. I pay $14 a quart for our RED-LINE oil for the race cars. If $10 a quart is too rich for you, maybe you should get a Prius.
