I think you did the right thing. I hated the bags on my son's Shoebox. You should look for some of those Merc style skirts,or just do without. The ones with the ribs are kinda cheesey,IMO. They aren't low enough.
You motor looks fantastic!!!!! Wish I had a flatty for my Merc.

Yah, you're totaly right about the skirts. I ended up taking them off after I took those pictures. I guess sometimes less is more.

I've actualy done a whole lot more sine I last posted an update but since I've been in LA the last week and being 850 miles away has been sorta difficult to finish it up. should be getting back in a week to hopefully get it driving. will post updated pictures as well

No clue but it was linked with a hydrolic clutch. I ended up using a new one from MACS.... Also I don't suggest buying one from them, they ended up sending me a 61-66 econoline master cylinder that you need to grind down and modify to get to work, thus voiding the warranty.

Good stuff ... going from a 302 to a flathead will definitely slow you down, but if you love the sound & feel of a flathead motor, it'll be worth it.

I also think it's pretty cool to see a car being swapped onto a more original frame, to move away from bags and to a more traditional lowered setup. I hope it all works smoothly for you.

Been in a rut after getting back from SO-CAL. not realy feeling the weather up here, hard to get motivated when you hate the place you live. Anyway this is how it sits right now, Got the seats temporarily done untill I can afford a real interior. I hope to get the radiator in tonight or tomorrow. PLEASE help me get motivated.

Just broke down and bought a 1 wire alternator for it, not gonna piss myself off trying to intergrate the 12v Gen and regulator into the pre existing wiring harness.

The alternator charges better when stuck in traffic anyway...and, this car has a hood. I have a generator on my roadster but an alternator in my Shoebox for precisely those reasons.

So I've been dealing with a lot on my plate in the last couple of months. It's been really tough coming back to the states and relating to the average American. I debated deleating my HAMB account and even thought about giving up on hot rodding all together. It's funny though while I was overseas all I thought about while laying in my cot "betwen bursts of automatic weapons fire" was what kind of mods I wanted to do to my shoebox.

A big part of me wanting to exit from the HAMB was the **** head mega posters spamming the hell out of build posts or OT posts.. seamingly trying to get their post counts up. It makes it super hard to fallow a build thread or filter out the **** to get to something relavent. Another is all the OT memorial/death in the family posts. IM SORRY that you dont have anyone else to share this with but I come to the hamb to try to escape the thoughts of my own mortality, not be reminded of it.

AND FINALY back to the shoebox. I ended up getting it running 2 days ago, and yesterday finished wiring it.. eventualy I'm going to have someone install a clean custom wiring harness but it works well for now.
I dont know when this engine was last ran, maybe 10 years ago. but it purrrrrrs and starts right up with no fuss. Also a huge thanks to ZAPATO on here for punching about 150 louvers into its peaked hood. looks great!
Also, Im pretty drunk/stoked in the video so deal with it.

EDIT: I ended up installing my belts/fan/alt and have it idling pretty damn well. ended up pulling out the thermostats because It started to get hot quick. I'm going to install a electric fan in the front and reverse the polarity on it so it blows air into the RAD for idling and say traffic lights and traffic.
This engine hasnt ran in years so I ended up pouring oil down the cylinders to ease the start about a month ago. Right now it seems to be showing a tiny tint of black smoke "burning off the oil" I ***ume.

Neat work , I think you made the right choice to get rid of the old frame . Personally I would try to get some new rear leaf springs set to the height you want .
Blocks are no good for handling and it appears you may have scrub line issues ...

I finaly drove it down the street today and let me tell you, it felt great! I have to tune the carb. It kept dying when i was braking but It shifts and drives true. I ended up going to all american cl***ics <an antique car wrecking yard> and pulling out a throttle pedel out of a old 50's F-1. It's working fantastic with the original linkage system. As for the electric fan, I'm a believer now and this is NON DEBATABLE. Its hooked up with a reverse polarity ****ing air in while stopped or ideling. The mechanical fan still does its thing. This flathead is in verry nice shape. It will be nice to get it out and finaly enjoy it.

tomorrow Im going to go ahead and retorque my heads, I'm not sure if the original owner ever did after rebuilding. Now, two renderings come up witch states two different torque patterns... Ill just post this info up, maybe someone can use it or contribute to it. Torque specs are 65-70 on cast iron heads. Im just going to ***ume that the later specs are the correct ones.

Torqued the heads down to 65lbs. Each bolt was about a half turn loose as suspected. I'm thinking the original owner didn't re-torque after the engine rebuild.

Very cool Box:)
Bought a 49 coupe for the Mrs. and for some strange reson, she bought the same type of blankets that you have, and as her stearing wheel was so cracked, i managed to find a 52 Lincoln wheel...close to the one you got:)

After slamming the deck lid shut on accident last night some of the purple paint chipped off and seams the first coat was Sea mist green... Definalty going back to that color, My new goal is to have it painted by september 5th!

pretty sure this is the color of the one above, if not let me know.<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0><TBODY><TR><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle>Sea Mist Green </TD><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle>C </TD><TD bgColor=#6e7b5d align=middle><A ***le="Disclaimer: this is our best guess at the color, if you have an update let us know"> </TD><TD align=middle>14282</TD><TD align=middle></TD><TD align=middle>40575</TD><TD align=middle>93-55133, 246-55133</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
I think a stock color like this will definatly compliment the customized pieces of this car, such as the frenched headlights/molded tail lights/louvered hood.
I'm gonna take it out for a spin today to get motivated!

Couldn't agree more.

Your car is looking great. You've gotten quite a bit done it looks like. Good luck on getting the car re-painted by September. I'll be looking forward to checking it out in person one of these days.
