OK fellows I've got a quick question for you all, I'm installing a daul chamber Corvette master cylinder on my 55 chevy g***er project and was trying to remember which ports are which. I'm running discs on the front straight axle and drums on the 9 inch on the rear. does the port closest to the firwall go to the front brakes or to the rear of the car? If memeroy serves me correctly the rear brakes get hit first so as to start slowing the car down safely before the brakes start doing the majority of the work. Any suggestions. Thanks all for your inputs. YRUHOT

  2. from my previous experience with those master cylinders the rear port should be the front brakes and the front the rear brakes.

Front port to front brakes, rear to rear. Here's a diagram (be sure to note position of m/c pushrod, this is under the floor mount) When you have firewall mount, you won't need the residual pressure valves.

See the note in dbradley's diagram?

Check which way the Corvette that the master cylinder fits was plumbed. Was it used in a disc/drum application? Volumes and pressures can differ. Usually a disc drum master will have a larger reservoir for the disc brake section. If both reservoirs are the same size it likely fits a 4 wheel disc car You could also connect gauges to each port and see which gets pressure first. That's determined by the springs and valving in the cylinder.

I just put one on my '41 truck. I used a GM prop valve with built in RPV and metering valve. Front to front, rear to rear. Even with M/C on firewall, if your prop valve doesn't have a built in RPV (most do), do yourself a favor and put one in. It keeps from ****ing air back in past the wheel cylinder cups when the shoes retract.

I'm running a Vette style MC. Front to Front, Rear to Rear. Mine is a early 70's type with 1" bore.
