found these at a garage sale for twenty bones.....look freakin new, and still have their tits on the sidewalls. Anyone have any info on these....union 76 fourstar tires, original ford wheels came with 14x5, I think they are 4 1/2.......
that one spot is the only checking or problem for either tire, unmounted checked the interiors and all is ok, gonna take them on a little ride around the block see what happens.......
better be sure they are not too old check for the build date on the tires, do not use old tires on the road surest way to be on your nose. Don't ask me how I know. Brakes and good tires are the two things you should not skimp on. Lost a rear tire with 3/8ths worth of rubber on them, at 70 mph in a model A roadster, they were ten years old but "had plenty of rubber on them" (sidewall blew out) went up on two wheels going sideways, put a whole new meaning to the phrase "shittin your pants" .......will never run old tires again...............
cant find any info on these suckers, anyone know who made them for union76 or where they were made?????????
They'd look cool with the wheels painted black/white checkered like they used to do to check tire spin at the track!!!!
The first 2 or 3 characters in the DOT serial will indicate the maker No DOT serial, don't even think about running them...ancient
When we were in High School, the manager at U.S.Royal tire let us have 'reject' tires for $4 apiece. They had a little flaw (brown stain) in the whitewall, or the raised lettering on the rire was scuffed! (otherwise, new...Man, what a deal! U.S.Royal Masters, whitewalls! (with the recessed whitewall...beautiful in 8.20X15 size!) My '36 Coupe had a pair on the rear, and one 6.40X15 on the right front: Pairs were a special score, so I had to wait a little over a year for the mate. Some of the tires we got had a hole in the tread. A hot patch or "boot" fixed these, and we were in shape! There were some tires we had to promise not to run...(set up tires only) They had sidewall flaws, or some tread problem. I got some NOS "US Royal Masters" (7.ooX16) for my Deuce. They had some 'checking', but I put tubes in 'em, was going around the 'bend' on 101 in Santa Clara, blew the sidewall out and spun that '32 around 3 times, narrowly missing the new bridge pillar! That was enough for me with the "New Old Stock Caddy tires"...
Please don't use those "basement biasplys".....They look good static, maybe with minor cracking even, but get 'em inflated and on the street and they will let you down! In a scary way! Use 'em for display only...
I'm with the others, those are literally an accident waiting to happen. Great for a static display but those don't belong on public roads.
Boom...bam...Kablamo Perfect for mock up and static display..but serioulsy rethink using those to drive on
I agree with Vonn ,But I am running a pair on the rear of my 32 that are us royal tires ,Mine have been stored inside for 30 years ,No checking or cracking...........
I got a set of rims and tires just like that.. "Somebody" did a burnout until they were slicks.. Now they reside on a farm implement. Mock up, driving eh maybe?
Use em for a smoke show in a parking lot some where not on a public road...look too old and worn for street use. There are a few things you don't want to compromise on any motor vehicle...tires and brakes. Just my 2 cents worth
I bought some that I *thought* were only 5-6 years old. Read DOT number wrong, they were 15 years old. Had to stop quick due to an idiot roaring up an on ramp and immediately in my lane. Tread ripped through about 4-5 inches. Instant flat. Luckily car had fully independent suspension so I did not end up in the ditch. Don't use 'em. Soooo not worth it. Cosmo
