Oh yea, that thing is way too far gone, there's barely anything left.

  2. Wash it, service it, vacuum the interior and thrash it! Really neat find!

I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time), but perhaps it was "emotionally" too rough on Earl to purchase the car from his late friend's estate ... at least that's how I read it ('cuz this '36 Coupe is certainly not too rough).

Yea, I could see that. I meant my remark as a compliment in the condition of the car too.:)

  11. It's funny about all the comments about mice getting into the smallest places. Last year, I was helping a buddy get ready to break in a motor on the run stand and we bolted up the old header mufflers that were stashed behind the shop. When the motor lit off, flaming mice came shooting out of the mufflers and it smelled EXACTLY like Chinese food................

It looks better than what I drove in the 80's...Too many cars try to fit a "mold" these days. I wouldnt even change the wheels. Have fun....

Well, the first thing to go was the digital gauges, none of them worked anyway! The steering wheel adapter was broke, so I used a wheel I had laying around.

Into the trash can ! [ not really, I never through anything away ].

Luckily, I had a stash of Stewart Warner gauges in stock. Alot of holes to fill & get working.

Next , was to see if it still ran. My helper Clark is all smiles as we breath life back into the 36. Actually started pretty easy after a little coaxing on the points.

Next, a carb change as it would not run very well, just idle. And some various tune-up work & it was purring again! Also,a bath always helps the to run better.

So, I am going to jump way ahead hear with some before & after shots of the motor. I dont want to bore everyone with pics of every detail. We stripped the whole motor down, painted the engine gold. Early Corvette valve covers were on my list. Then I relized, there was nowhere to add oil! So, E-bay to the rescue. Found a nice old Edelbrock manifold. Polished it along with the valve covers. New radiator, carb, water pump, & other misc. items. Also, no PCV, so I had to tap the intake for that.

I laugh to hear that we are now finding "80's Street Rods" in barns!

Nice work, I think Clark wants to take the car for a drive!

OK, Here are some pics after the first bath. I bought a set of wheels @ the Turlock swap meet in January. A little wide in back, but just the style I was looking for. I wanted a late 50's look to it.

I did not like the rear mounted spare, so I took it off, removed the mount & made a license plate bracket that would use the same holes in case someone wanted to put it back.

I am a kook about license plates. I like them to match the era I think the car looks like, so I used these 56 plates with some old San Francisco frames I had laying around.
