I have some parts I'd like to get chrome coated with the paint on process. Does anyone in Florida or on here do the process?Plating is not an option. There was a thread on the process a little while back and I can't locate it again.
I am sure there are shops in your area that do the spray on process. Just so you know it is in no way chrome. Completely differant from the plating process. Chrome can only be applied by electroplating. The spray on is usually a silver based which has an appearance comparable with that of chrome. I just have to ask why plating is not an option though? Some of the spray on processes prices have shocked me. Some parts were more expensive to do the spray on than to have had real chrome plating! I know of one guy out of Colorado I believe that is on here that does the spray on. "Bulldogcustomchrome" I think thats his handle on here.
This is the thread you may be referring to. He is in CA though. Hope this helps http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=580579&highlight=34+grille+chrome
I saw this thread and called Ed at Sacramento chrome and paint , really nice guy . Price is about half of what my local chrome shops wanted . I haven't gotten my stuff back yet , he's only had it a few days , but he sent some pictures on my cel phone and so far it looks great . I'll keep you guys posted how it turns out , I think I'm going to be really happy though . Ed's info is in the thread below by M.Edell , because of him is why I decided to try it . It will be a Godsend if it works out because my local shops have gotten way more expensive while quality has gone out the window . It was cheap to UPS him the stuff .
Can someone post some pics? I have a 'gl*** bumper I want to look just like a steel chrome bumper! Thanks
^^^It won't. American PVD coatings in Downey CA were one of the first to use the vacuum metallizing process, which is what Edlbrock sells as Endurashine. It does not look like real electroplated chrome though - too blue, shiney and ripply and I would not recommend using it on a bumper. It is a fused plastic and will scratch and mark easily....
It will... the Spray On Chrome System can be had in Many many colors, the sky its the limit... Gold, Bronze, silver, Copper, anodized(if you used matting agents to kill the Silver´s Higher than Chrome reflectivity) here some small samples of my own PVD Vacuum Metallizing its a much different and much more expencive way to deposit metal in a surface, while Spray On Chrome(Silvering) its a Catalyzed chemical process here some reading on PVD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_vapor_deposition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vacuum_metallizing well if the Prep work its near perfect(pros) it can be made super smooth again this is not PVD its Spray on chrome(small parts like my s****s dont even need to be spray to be made) the parts are as strong as the protective Clear coat used...
There are a few of us on here who do spray chrome. I know stude-sled is out of Missouri. Ed from Sacramento Chrome and Paint has been mentioned a few times and also does good work. I am now working out of Kansas instead of Colorado. Any of us would be glad to help and we're used to shipping parts to out of state customers.
How about out of the country?.. well I guess I could do that from Miami my self.. hey BullDog chrome, how much would you chrome a small sample piece for me, lets say a speedshape car? maybe two? its for educational purposes, I already have some Alsa pieces, I am testing all the system I can get my hands on.. P.M me
