I've been lurking for quite awhile now and figured it's probably about time I say hey and introduce myself. My name's Erik (contrary to the absurd screenname), and despite being a young pup, I've been in and around hot rods just about my entire life. I can't count the number of summer nights I spent in the shop just sitting and listening in awe to my old man and his buddies BSing after working on one of their cars about the cruising/racing/general chaos they got into back in the 50's and 60's. Most of which would inevitably end with him looking at me with a smirk and bestowing upon me the wisdom, "Son, do as I say, not as I do... Or I'll kill ya." haha! Some of my earliest memories are sitting in the p***enger seat of my dad's chopped 36 Ford pickup, staring at the dashboard and listening to the pipes crack. Needless to say I was doomed from the beginning! Life's been doing a good job of getting in the way lately, but I'm currently putting together a 55 Ford F-100 that I'm hoping to drive down to the Pileup. I've also got a 28 Plymouth Sedan waiting for "someday". I know it's a bit O/T, but my pride and joy is my first truck, a 2wd shortbed 1969 Ford F-100 that I did my first frame-off resto on back in highschool. It originally had a tired old 302 in it and three on the tree, and the first time I went through the truck I just warmed over the small block and put a floor shifter on the 3 speed. It's currently apart waiting for a new heart and a few other odds and ends now that I can (at least attempt to) afford it. This forum has such a huge wealth of knowledgeable members and information, I can only hope to contribute in at least some small way. It's awesome that there's a place like this to keep the flame lit and the hot rod tradition alive! Cheers! Oh, and everybody loves pictures : My old man's chopped 36 Ford. The 28 Plymouth posing for a quick picture in between doing it's job as semi-mobile dust organization device. My 69 Ford F-100 that just refuses to get finished (this is an old picture from when I first finished the resto, now it's a good bit lower and has a set of American Racing salt-flat wheels (I was searching for a set of genuine Halibrand Kidney Beans, but got impatient for new rolling stock and pulled the trigger on the knockoffs)).
Welcome from the West Coast of Florida. You really have some nice trucks in your collection, This place is a treasure trove of great information and advice. Nice to meet you.
Hey Erik, Welcome from Brodhead WI... Some nice stuff you got there!! And hey, I even know how to pronounce the name of your town !!!! lol Look forward to your contributions and posts.... Cheers, Bob
Thanks for the warm welcome! Thanks! It's a neat old service station my old man bought a few years back when property values fell through the floor. He's got a couple gas pumps and Coke machines he's been slowly collecting parts for over the past few years to put up. He eventually plans on cleaning the place up a bit, but ultimately leaving the weathered/patina look alone, cracked concrete and all (kind of an old Route 66 station vibe; like it's a survivor, not a shiny restoration).
