Great builds, thank you very much Lyle. Pretty dismal last week when nobody posted.

    Those models are really cool.

I remember making models years ago but I don't ever remember them looking as good as what you have.

Are these kits and if they are who makes them?

The sprinter is 100% scratch built except for the tires and even they are modified to fit the homemade rims:cool:

Here's my latest unfinished (just started actually). '50 Bel Air I just got from ebay. It was an opened kit, previous owner had cut out the quarter wheel openings and partially ***embled the engine. In the first pic it's just sitting on some wood with some parts box tires stuck in the wheel openings. So far I've just removed the hood and trunk emblems and painted the engine. I'm going to go with the dual carb setup from the Fleetline kit.

As always love Sunday Models !!! Sprinter your build is insane !!! And I love the Metro, where is that body available. Also as a side note, I got an E-mail from Tom Daniels earlier in the week. It was a reply to E-mail I sent to him over a year ago !!!

I checked out these builds yesterday at York. There were some really nice pieces there. Thanks, Lyle, for posting them for all to see. You really got around to all parts of the fairgrounds.....Don.

  12. Ok, guys pleas excuse this post as its just a cut and past from another thread on our Modelers page. If we are posting up unfinished kits, man I have........er..........had a LOT!!

FAT141, man I love that Van!! Where did the body come from? I can't say I have ever seen a kit?? The A is looking good too, great sit.

Sprinter, Hell what can one say? Scratch built in 1/8th? Awesome.

    ................................................................................................................................

I like the building from bits, these are two projects that were in my old collection. The first one is made up from the roof of a Revell 32 3 window and body from an AMT 32 5 window body.
The roof had to be narrowed quite a bit! The ch***is is br*** and the rest was from the spares box.

Now this one was fun to build, the body is the 57 Ford ProMod body with an AMT 57 Chev rear roof section and the front from a Revell 57 Chev Funny Car. Oddly I have never bought a 57 Chev or Ford kit, they came in 'bit's' when I bought a spares box.
The ch***is is a narrowed and shortened NASCAR ch***is of unknown origin with a br*** roll cage and plastic card firewall, Seat was plastic card that was done for a different project as was the 'lenco' cog box. The rest was dug up from the spares box. damn I wish I still had this one!!

And then there is this one, yeah its O/T but it shows you can build most things you don't always need a shiny new kit.

I was given an Aston Martin DB5 body by a mate. It proved too enticing as I love the shape of them and I had to build it, so off to the spares box.............only problem was,
this thing is only 1/32 scale, that makes it about 5inches long.
I started doing a ch***is but had nothing for wheels or tyres, so I went searching for parts. I managed to swap the black parts (In the first pic), motor, diff, seat and wheels/tyres from another mate. Apparently they they are NASCAR items.
So from br*** and plastic card I built the ch***is, roll cage and fuel tank. Its all loosely based on a NASCAR ch***is, I mean why not all the other parts were NASCAR!
This was one of the most enjoyable builds I ever attempted, it is also one of the things I lost.

Last pic, just to prove I am not full of it, here it is next to a standard size Humbrol paint tin. I kept getting called full of it for saying it was only 1/32 scale, so needed proof!!

See, almost anything is possible. Some of you guys are much better than I will ever be (Carps) and some of you have only just started. Remember we all were there once, I had sooooooooo many glue bombs.
I think thats what made me try harder, fixing all the glue bombs and having to make what I didn't have. I could never afford to buy kits, now I love to scratch build and work from wrecks. I find that I get more motivation looking at a bomb rather that a nice clean new kit.

Great work guys. Love the sprinter Old Sprinter another great job. An Aston Martin drag car, too much. You folks have some talent that is for sure. Thanks for sharing the photos of your work.

  15. Is it just me or does this thread seem to be shrinking all the time?

AMT 40 Coupe, wanted to see if I could chop it without wrecking it. I like it, just need the side windows to be a little taller.

This was to have been an entry into the customs Build-Off that just wrapped up, but after paint job attempt #3 or 4 screwing up on me, this one is in need of a new body shell:

  27. Here's a couple shots of what was to be my entry into the customs build, but couldn't get finished in time. so heres where it sits.
It's a 53 chev with 57 headlights, custom tail lights, pancaked hood, sever chop, custom windows ( that got messed up bad). Under the hood is pontiac overhead valve straight six, mostly stock. for paint i used the new testors lacquer about 3 coats over silver. one of the worst things to due as now the paint will chip down to the silver, and with the way this paints cover i think from now on i won't use anything extra under it for effects

And this is what's currently on my workbench. Who says all '49 Mercs are lead sleds?

Okay - I'm bragging here. I won 4 awards from the model contest at the Street Rod Nats East. These are voted by people's choice from 1:1 street rodders.
