I realized my first issue with the HAMB today. I sit and read thru all these different projects thinking, hey - that dont look too hard. Pictures look good but they dont tell you **** about about the sweat and hours guys put in to making these things right again. Worked on my project for the better part of the weekend fab'ing up some new front body mounts. I have a whole new respect for how easy guys make it look. There really are some over the top builders on here. Makes me proud to watch a**** them and continue to learn.

    :D:D

  2. Sounds to me more like you have more of a problem with time than you do qith the HAMB.

Yea hot rodding is work, but if it is what you like to do then time will always get away from you and you will almost always end up spending more time in the shop than you expected.

Its a funny thing but there was a time when i could ***emble a new engine in 3 or 4 hours. That is ***embly only that doesn't include the countelss hours it take to make sure all the clearances are correct or tril fitting the new pieces prior to ***embly to ***uere that nothing is going to bump into any thing else.

it all sounds pretty easy as long as all you are doing is looking at the finished product. It is the adventure that gets you to the finished product that is the most fun.

Make damned sure you enjoy the adventure.

I could not agree more.I was about to give up on my dream ride build when I stumbled across Ian Berkleys Thread about chopping a chevy top.The pics he posted on how to do the interior moulding and the vent windows opened a new door for me.I was making it much harder than it really is.I am now going to keep working on the car and finish it.Thanks to the hamb and all those great fabricators that make it look "easy".

you have probably heard the old idiom, "if it was easy everyone would be doing it". Very true words. I learn something pretty much every time I log in & start reading. And I am thankful for that.

I think there's really only 2 reasons guys build cars. It's either their first build and they think it's going to be easy, or they have a poor memory and forgot what a pain in the *** the last build was!:D

I followed one build on the HAMB all the way through and really enjoyed it. When I saw the car in person it was at a show and at first it didn't sink in what I was looking at, I didn't recognize it and it had never occurred to me that I might see it in person. When I realized I was looking at "that car" it was an awesome feeling. I remembered things he'd changed, had problems doing, had problems deciding what to do, done perfectly the first time, stuff like that. I've learned a great deal on the HAMB and had a lot of fun doing it. It also is very encouraging to read about the problems that get solved on here.

"that don't look to hard" ??? Seriously?
I've seen threads on here that I still have no idea how they did it! Even when it is accompanied be a good right up.

The guy who hand built the Willys from aluminum comes to mind. Un-freakin-believable!

Loads of talent here, thats why I love this place

All the time I get, "man that sure is alot of time & work". I just wanna say, if you unplug your tv and prioritize your tasks within a day you'd be amazed on how much time you'd have.

  15. Hahaha...:eek::D

I've been building and restoring cars 30 years before I discovered the HAMB... and I watched SamIam's "Roachy" being built and decided at that time that this type of car was more fun to build than my "Finely Finished" Street Rods.

Done on a tight budget and with many found parts... (not a bunch of junk parts... but cool parts to make it a legit Hot Rod!)

Then SamIam entered his car into the "Ego-Rama" and confirmed to me that these were the type of guys I wanted to hang out with and the type of car I wanted to build!

Its also a good lesson on why the "pros" charge so much for what they do.........makes you understand if you have half a brain.

Well, I'll admit, I thought it would be easy.
However, I will NEVER forget what a pain in the *** it is.
I have a lot of respect for the builders on here!

Nothin like good quality time spent on a good project to wash away the stresses in your life. Theres ALWAYS something to do on your ride, even if youre broke.

For me, its been a part of my life for many years. I always thought wrenchin on old cars was just a true p***ion of mine. My house and garage look the same, tattoos are car related, clothes, music, hair style.. everything, everyday. The only books I can remember reading are car realted or shop manuals. I havent had a radio in my car for the last 11 years just so I can listen to my exhaust. The only vacation I request off is for car shows. I havent missed a Portland swapmeet in 31 years. I fall asleep each night listening to the far off sounds of bonneville salt flat machines...

Ive come to realize that Im actually addicted... but its a healthy thing and the HAMB "feeds" me, so Im good.
