Condenser ?

Having some issues -

Car starts ok, idles ok, no power and backfires on decceleration.
Thought I might be too rich, but adjusted the carbs and not the case.
Went today to get a new condenser and on a whim bought a new coil. ($47!)
When I replaced the coil the hot wire was broken/loose inside the shrink wrap and pulled right out. I did this in the NAPA parking lot and the coil was really hot to the touch.
The condenser was the wrong one so I ordered another one.
Car ran a little better on the way home. Hoping new condenser tomorrow helps.
Points look fine.
With new condenser tomorrow I'll re-time and adjust dwell.
Am I on the right track?

 

Might want to check the advance also. If the ignition can't advance, it won't have much pickup.

 

condensers work or not not any gray area here. sounds like obstructed fuel source.

 

backfire on decel... sounds like the exh valve is open meaning timing is way retarded. try a bit of advance.
