My brother has a 1956 F100 with a 350 and volare front end. It has polyurethane motormounts (the sandwiched kind) they have seperated, we removed to replace. Ordered a new set from Summit, picked them up only to find where they mate up to the frame, old mounts were 3" wide, the new ones and apparently every other one they carry are 2 5/8" or 2 3/8", anyone know where to find the wider 3" style? All holes are same, just bracket that slides over the stub, is too narrow on the new ones. Les
I dont know where originals came from and summit says they dont have any with 3" width, unless tech he got was a bozo, he said they were all the same. Les
When you say "sandwiched kind" are you talking about the later model 'clamshell' mounts? They come with just the insert and you use the old shells. Energy does make them. You can see them here: http://www.energysuspension.com/products/Motor-Mounts.html
No I just meant these... they sandwich the polyurethan between the two metal plates, ours are seperated, the measurement they are showing, is 2 5/8" ours is 3" there. any idea where to get one?
You/he might want to check the next generation of Chevy motor mounts as when the they changed to the safety kind they might have also made the bases wider. I think I fought that battle in the opposite direction on a car 30 something years ago when I replaced the mount and got the "upgraded" mount and had to put washers between the mount and the frame mount to take up the slack. The other route is to take the angle grinder and dress 1/8 inch off each end of the tubes that the mounts bolt to and be done with it.
I found some info that describes what you are talking about here. The mount towards the bottom of the page(left) looks wider with spacers built in. Maybe somebody chopped them off or may they fell off. ??? http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=342627
Those are it. So now we have to find out where to get new ones, not sure taking out the 1/8" will work, but may be my direction if I cant get a source.
