While it can be done, and has been done; it is difficult to make such a setup attractive on a Model A or deuce. Moving the crossmember forward takes care of the wheelbase issue, but then the radiator position relative to the body and the front crossmember becomes an issue, and it really affects the look of the finished car. Maybe using a '33 or '34 grill would help to cover the crossmember; but I would do a lot of studying of what needs to go where and think hard about how all the things you are considering will look when you are done.
I originally just did it to lower the car. I wanted it real low. I kicked the frame up front and rear channeled it. Drop axle. But have decided to use a 32 frame. Without cutting it all up I want to make it as low as possible with the body on top of the frame. I will take all your comments in consideration. Thanks
Is it bad that I kinda like the look of that front suspension? Has any one done this with a stock A frame?
Dam I hope that thing has a torque arm under the back if not, wow, scary looking science right there!
Cool! THX!!! So I've got a 33/34 axle, and a set of late 30s split bones with the mounts for the spring in front. In order to use it with the sprint on front, I need to hack off the frame horns like on Wally Parks' roadster, then make that mounting plate hanging off the front so that the axle remains in the correct original position, correct?
Isn't a 32 ALREADY a longer wheelbase than a Model A? The slope of the frame horns on a 32 MIGHT make it difficult to simply move a stock crossmember forward but I suppose an aftermarket job that just welds to the boxing plates would be fairly simple to reposition while under construction. Mock it all together and you'll know if you can run the 32 frame unmodified with the spring ahead. Better to see how it looks on your own rig than to base it solely on the looks of other cars. Wow...look past the dirt/patina and that little T bucket has "it" going on in spades!
