A guy on my Aussie forum ozrodders.com is building a 32 coupe Ute, its different, but i think i like it He is going to make a few bodies towards the end of the year and see how they go. I will keep you updated as to how his first build goes. cheers barnsey Quote Steve. This is the plug for a mold that I have nearly finished. It is stretched 100mm to keep the proportions correct . It started off as a 5 window coupe and evolved from there. Here are some more angles. The cab was left untouched. The 100mm was added behind the doors to move the rear wheels back so it didn't look like it had been hit up the bum.The chassis uses stretched rails that Lilow cut for me. All the swag's in the side rails are there, only longer. The front 3/4 of the chassis is standard 32.The tailgate was cut into the body after all the body work was finished and the returns added. Thanks Steve
Interesting, not a big fan of the "tub" look and that sill below the rear window. Will be cool to see the finished project though.
Man.... I don't know.... Personally, I can appreciate it... but just something isn't right about that box to me... I can't put my finger on what isn't right for me.... Its cool enough, but just not for me at this time. Great project though!
nope. cab is too long. Maybe a three window shape would have worked better here. I Know my opinion is worth nothing, but that is pretty ugly to me.
Now you have to concoct some cock and bull story about how Lew Bandt actually started work on a prototype in 1932 - not 1933 as the history books show, and that it was ordered destroyed but was snuck out of the factory prototype area in the middle of the night. Ol' Henry beat you guys to it with a closed cab ute in the USA in 1931 anyway....
I (obviously) love chopped '32 5wd Coupes ... and I typically dig "Closed Cab" Utes ... but this one's just not doing it for me. I'm thinkin' that Henry pretty much got it right with the Aussie Model B Type 302 & 304 "Roadster" Utility Cars: __________________________________________ HAMBer ken1939's cool Deuce Roadster Ute
we had a 1934 coupe ute here in Oz, but you don't see to many of them around these days, Could you please make a car that we can go to church in on Sunday and take the pigs to market on Monday,” wrote a Gippsland farmer’s wife in 1933 to Ford Managing Director Hubert French. Bank managers at the time wouldn’t lend money to farmers to buy a passenger car, only a farm truck, hence the plea from one very fed up woman! French handed the letter to a young man in the Design Department, Lewis Bandt. Lew came up with a design that incorporated the front half of a sedan with the rear half of a light truck and the Coupe Utility was born. His design was approved and production started in 1934. In 1935 Henry Ford I invited Lew to Detroit to design a utility for the US market, especially for the State of Texas. Manufacturers around the world eventually copied Lew Bandt’s design but Ford Australia was the first to build and market the Coupe Utility and has produced an unbroken line of coupe utes ever since.
I like it.Plenty of leg room for a guy 6'4".The rear bed area lends itself well to a cloth type toneau cover or even a smooth glass affair. I know the original question was for comment, maybe we should save it for the finished product? BanjeauX Bob
sorry barnsey, its not floating my boat. again, its only my personal opinion, but we all have our likes and dislikes. I think the back squared up like the style side roadster utes of the time probably would have made a huge difference. but as long as he's happy. I'm sure some will buy one as they will want something 32 but 'different' guess the proof will be in the sales figures.
not my cup of tea. i don't see the merit in having a glass ute, it'd be cool havin a steel one cos they're rare as rockin'horse shit ('34s etc i mean) but to my eye they arent the most attractive body style. i understand that itd be different but its just different for different's sake, you know? as for this one i think it could benefit from copying the '34 tub more closely'. that tub dos'nt look like it fits the car to me. but that said its not my car and if it does it for the owner then thats all that matters is'nt it?? also if i saw a '32 ute at a show id definately have a look and can imagine alot of people would do the same.
Not my cup of tea, looks like a tourer has smacked up the arse of a 5w hard. Back of passenger compartment and swage lines and tailgate section just don't look right. Will he sell any? Absolutely, the street rodder crowd will eat it up.
I can see what he was trying to do, but no matter which way you look at it, it doesn't 'flow'. Looks like a tourer tub crazy glued to the back of a 5W coupe.
is this a elvis body he makes nice bodys ive had 2 from him both 3 window 32 coupes my current one is stock height
If there's all this talent out there making glass bodies, why can't I get anyone to build a B400? I think they'd sell a lot better than a Ute!
And here's a Model A coupe pickup - this one now in the U.K. Allegedly a few of these were made - but maybe it's just urban legend. I did see one original advertised in one of the small page car collector mags in the 1990s in Los Angeles though....

Not so much a wild hot rod but maybe 32 wires one color paint job.
I think the design looks believable as an original UTE with a street rod flair. You either love them or hate them. I think generally the American consensus is the latter because we didn't grow up with them like the folks down under.
I dig it man! To look like a true Ute, it's gotta' be a 5 window, but a 3 window would be interesting. when can we see it in full dress?
personally I really like the square back look of this 34, the 32 has more of a tub look and the sill behind the window throws it off too. But the work that you put into that body is awesome I dig the firewall . Just my 2 cents good luck with it.
