A friend of mine recently bought a 26 Touring T to hot rod. EvilT and I are doing the work on it and she keeps hunting the net for T pics. How about some HAMB examples that I can show her...Her name is Nancy, she is working on the car with us, and with enough encouragement maybe we can make a Hamber out of her. True
There used to be gobs of pics here . There's a few left http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52939 The attachments are: 1. some anonymous pic from the HAMB 2. Hop Up staff car 3. My pile, still in the planning stages
The black one was Ron Olmsteads, ElP had it at the first HAMBrags, MilesM owns it now. Killer little car! small Nailhead for power.
One of my favorite body styles. Someday I'll have one - along with a rac**** coat, a ukelele and a straw boater. Until then, I collect pictures, but I rarely see them done "right." The one that the Hop Up guy is building (Mark Morton?) is very close to perfection. I think "The Queen" from the Hardy Boys novels was an early influence on me, as well as the "ol jalop" from Disney's Make Mine Music. I think this one's Jughead's, even though Archie is driving. This one looks stock, but is in fact mounted on a Model A ch***is. And this HUGE picture is from my own fevered imagination.
The red one belonged to good friend Bill Booth. He p***ed away a few years ago. He bought the car in '66, built it and drove it 100s of thousands of miles through the years. That's his original long board in it. His wife drove with him most of those miles and she's still driving the car. The other car is the Joe Barnett car that George Goodrich rebuilt and saved from being pieced out for over 30 years. It sold last year to a HAMBer that know has it on the road after a 40 year slumber.
All right, a few more.... I have more pics of the red one and of the one with top bows above if those are of particular interest to anyone.
Tman, I did not buy Rons Tub. Not yet at least! I beleive it is still for sale. He had it at cruise night a couple week ends ago. Miles
I think there are really two unique challenges to building a touring - the back seat and the gas tank. As far as the build goes, if you want fenderless and low, the first question I think you have to ask yourself is whether or not you want the back seat to be functional. Tman's is nice and low, but no back seat, for example. Morty's is probably as low as possible in the back while retaining the seat. If you want the back seat, the next question is where to put the gas tank. It was in the cowl originally (separate tank - not like the Model As). Original tanks in decent shape are available, but not reproduced as far as I know. Morty has a MG-TD tank built into the back seat. A 40's or 50's pickup 'behind-the-seat' tank might work, too. The black fendered touring that I posted above has an oval T tank on a bracket out back (I have more pics of that one, too). I think a '32 tank might look good out back, but it might need to be resized to look decent. Hope the pictures help. Chris
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38952 here is another thread with a bunch of pics. 40Tudor - I have a copy of yours saved but could not remember who owned it. Mine is just now in about that stage. I agree on all the challenges. I have a 4 and 6 year old so I want the back seat. A good friend has a Touring that he claims he used a VW gas tank under the floor about like an aftermarket Model A saddle tank. I am searching for parts constantly because they seem to be sky rocketing - I thought it's just a Model T so it should be cheap... I was a day away from going to pick up the material to build my frame when a buddy popped up with a boxed Model A frame that I think I am going to use. Anybody have any pics for the rear - spreader bars, nerf bars etc.
My favorite is this one: If I ever found a T-touring or a tudor sedan I could hack the roof off it would end up looking something like this!
Here's Doubletubtrouble's touring. It's not a '26-'27, it's earlier, but still the baddest one out there.
