A "traditional" hot rod Plymouth? I don't think so! What was I thinking? Sold the car, bought a Ford. . .

1932,1940 fords and 33 plymouths are my favorite cars, I'm on the hunt for a 32 ford or a 33 plymouth coupe right now, you made a great buy.

That is a sweet lookin coupe, the grille is outstanding. I loves me some MoPars and they don't get any nicer than this one. They look like a 2-3" chop from the factory, killer profile. Cool to rebuild the mill, I was thinking a sbc might be coming, thank the lord. Good luck with the project and thanx for showin us this dandy. ~sololobo~

Sweet, sweet ride. Extra points for avoiding another cookie-cutter swap, and staying with
the warmed-over stock 6. Should be a real smooth running motor......

Is that body as good as it looks?

  7. Nice work. I really like those old Plymouths. (Hell, I like 'em all!) Any plans for taller gears? O.D.?

I would love to have that to put the flathead and OD out of my 48 in. Especially once I get my new finned head on.

Love the 33 Plymouth, that was one of my 1st cars, when I was a wee lad. I'm curious, why didn't you paint the new wood, to help protect it from the elements? Just asking, not criticizing.

Kinda makes me sad. I had a body just like that when I was about 15. I was trying to build a hotrod and had left the body at a neighbor's place for the summer. His dad took the loader and chucked them in the dam where it was washing through the fence.

Awesome work 43gman! You're making a lot of people jealous with the speed you tackle this project. Something a lot of us can only dream about. This is going to be one nice looking '33 when you're done. Keep up the great work!

we have run 3.5 through to 2.91 diff ratio's in these cars for years and never experienced any major problems. These engines produce torque not rpm and love to "dig in" and grunt along. My 35 desoto had 3.5 diff ratio's and moved along real well inc taking off in 1st gear. At 60 on the motorway she was happy and would leave any stock Ford or Chev for dead. I've driven a car with 2.91 gear set and while 1st gear take off's needed a bit more clutch slippage its open road speed was great - and with reduced engine speed so that ol lady cruised beautifully.
Over boring the engine .125 sounds alot however these blocks were cast in the days before thin wall castings and many an engine has had this done to it. we used to take the 3 1/4 engines and over bore them to take the 3 7/16th bore size pistons to make a small 23" block have a similar ci as a 25" long block - again heaps of torque and not much extra rpm yet they could "grunt" along just fine. Also helped us recycle pistons back in a time when parts were hard to come by and you used everything till it was truely knackered
