I had some parts advertised on the recycler website. A guy from UK is offering to buy them from me for more than I advertised them for. Then he says he has a shipping agent who would be responsible for shipping. All this seems like a whole lot of trouble for a set of brake calipers for a 79-86 chevy pickup. Any opinions? I would be more comfortable if it was a Hamb transaction. __________________ 1930 model A Pickup (project)
Yup, it's a scam. Possibly, the email you got did not even specifically mention what you were selling. Many of these scam emails will say something like: "I am interested in buying the item you had for sale" or, "I would like to purchase your auction item". The reason the item (like your brake calipers) are not specifically mentioned is that some of the scammers now use automated software email programs to generate their scam emails, so you essentially get "generic" scam emails, that could apply to anything, anyone had for sale on the internet. It has become a HUGE problem for those who list items on the various Craigslists. What they would send you is usually a countefeit cashiers check, but they have recently been sending counterfeit US Postal Money Orders.
Tell him you have a buddy in England who can take the cash to you & bring the calipers home for him. That'll stop him in his tracks if its a scam, but it sure does smell like one!! i'll bet he doesn't reply to that offer. Kev.
Thanks Kev I was hoping you would check this one out. I have his email can I shoot it to you? better yet its probably not worth the whole h***le!
this seems to be a topic that comes up like every week or something... i thought everyone knew this **** allready?
Scott ask yourself this question, "why would someone want to give you more than you are asking?" Hell I'm a pretty good guy but if you are asking less than I expect to pay I'm still only going to give you your asking price.
I actually know someone who fell for this scheme. He was pretty pissed when he had to cover for the bad cahier's check. He wasn't Irish either
Scott, no problem p*** his e-mail on to me & i'll wind the ****er up big style!! hahahaha. I had one in particular a while back he said he was from "Europe Belfast Ireland" what a retard & a dead cert he'd never been there, i replied telling him i had family there & asked what area he was from.....of course the loser never got back to me. I'm selling my truck right now & get at least two scams a day on it......i just ignore them & file 'em under CS. Kev.
if i run an ad on the ford barn its a FER SURE deal ill get these scammers emailin one after another. somebody must have a way of finding these clowns!!?!? somebody somewhere must be falling for these scams because they keep on sending emails. first time i got one i laughed my *** off it was a 34 4 door body for 1,200.00 i had for sale. i emailed back & said here look its real easy, when the truck backs in to load this bod just have the driver hand me cash, ill count it & then ill help him load it! its as EZ as pie. --- the clown said im sending you more money, you hold it & the car awhile etc... i said listen **** i want the car outta here NOW!!! i sold it the first day anyway but i gave the clown the address to the county courthouse. HAHAHAHA
