A few years back someone posted a pic of a 49-51 merc that had been made into a truck/ranchero/el camino. Does anyone have info on where it is, is it being revived and or is it for sale possibly. Post pics if you have them, thanks
id like it better with a studebaker bed from a pick up on it , or even better keep it a car with a chopped top
I don't care for this one anymore than I like the one in the above photo, but I think it looks better...more like it may have been made that way.
IMHO, unless the Merc was severely ***-packed, what a waste.... GOOD HANDS..... BAD TASTE IN CARS...............! James
that 4dr Merc with the late GM stepside bed is quite possible one of the worst-looking "finished" customs I have ever seen. Talk about dischordant styling - like putting a Ferrari 355 nose on a 53 Buick...and actually taking PRIDE in the finished product.
There's at least 2 more of these that I know about..Used to see an orange one 15-20 years ago at Gas City,KKOA shows, and 20-30 years ago, there was an unchopped one sitting in a junkyard on Highway 11-E in East Tennessee..That one used the Merc sides, not a truck bed,and it looked factory as hell.Walked around it for a long time, and couldn't see ANY sign of bad body or metalwork, and other than being a truck,it was stock down to factory paint.Somebody chime in on that one,I'm sure upper East Tennessee HAMBers,if they're old enough, have seen it.Crazy old man ran the yard, and his original yard was a victim of Lady Birds beautification projects in the 60s.My sister went to Carson Newman college, and I used to ride with my dad past that yard as a little kid in the late 50s,and see the 20s and 30s cars piled 10 high as far as you could see from the road.
I will never again say " They f ed that chop". Who'd think a bad chop is better than ALL that previous ****.

Really? i think this is pretty cool. the others on this thread are a waste of bandwidth, but this is nice. Might need finishing, but thats about it.
Agreed, this is the best looking one so far. That "extended cab" one made me lose faith in humanity and want to punch babies.
Brown one just needs a windshield on the back too and you wouldn't know which way it was going until they turned the lights on.
hmmm, im not sure, most of those make me wanna hang up my 6011 and sell the welder, and thats saying something, I like most unusual stuff, but those are hard to like......
i normally don't like these mercs ('cos the ford of the same model looks so good) but for some reason they look really good as a ute
maybe a thicker B pillar on the cab, and making it out of a 51 with the tailfins would help the look. cap it off with a nice leaned forward tailgate like a nomad and id drive it!!
A Friend of mine owned that car for about ten years. He didnt do much to it. I think it went out toward Kansas when he sold it.
One from Canada: "John J. C. Little most likely constructed this 1950 Mercury Meteor flower car for a customer in Quebec, as the rooftop cross is a traditional detail on the provinces funeral vehicles." http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/article/Little_Business_BIG_CARS/?print=1
He's a local Ozzie 'Single spinner' ute over in the US and LHD. I presume the front sheet metal will interchange. Old FOrd utes aren't as common like Chevy utes however they are still around as drivers and project cars. www.cardomain.com/ride/3048531/1949-ford-ranchero
