Oow yes Jimi, 1965, I had read but not understood :D. But I will remember, it's my birthday year !

Left, this is a Citroen DS made after 1956 and right an Citroen Ami 6 or 8. They called the DS "the queen of the road" :)

It was a saloon Peugeot 203 made from 1949 to 1960 transformed into a wrecker.:)

I had to add these cool VINTAGE junkyard shots to the collection on this old-time
junkyards thread:cool:. All were taken in locations lost to us now and were posted on
the vintage thread by HAMBer LowCat. To me, what's so cool about these ORIGINAL
pix is that they show a lot of junked cars still in very good shape:D and just needing
an engine, or a rebuild, a trans, whatever, to get them back roadable again! Most
are still on their still-inflated original tires, not sunk into the ground the way they'd
be after a couple or three decades, ya know?:( I get a jolt out of looking at old pix
like this, ID-ing as many cars as I can, and thinking of the POSSIBILITIES, if you
could grab the one (or two!) of your choice:rolleyes:, still with great sheet metal!

OneMintCaddy, it's great to know there's a place with oldies like that, tucked away somewhere.:D I wish more of these "nearly complete" cars were just a little more complete:p, especially considering some of the asking prices. $5 grand for the beat-up '38 Packard he**** stands out as an example in my mind.

Buy, yeah. Glad to know they're still out there, and the pix were a blast to gander at! THANKS for stumbling onto the site and posting these, bro!

Nick DeWolf of the flickr community is a prolific photographer who has used an effective, very candid style during his four decades of travels around the U.S. and Canada. During a Colorado rafting trip, he shot these lonely, discarded hulks in 1972 near Aspen. This would have been at the very time when John Denver was singing about eagles and hawks, and leaving songs about "graveyards of rusted automobiles" to Arlo Guthrie! But, really, there's something visually and spiritually appealing in both, you think?

A major s**** business, Emeryville, CA, 1971, in the SF Bay area, shot by Nick.

Even though Nick took this pic 40 years ago, seeing all the Mopars in this stack is wrenching,
    especially seeing the two '56s.

It's kind of hard to imagine, TODAY, a time when '57 Chevys were about as common as fleas
on a dog's back, and NOBODY worried a second when one went to the crusher!:(

Yup, Geordie's listed prices are very high. However, if you show up with a trailer and a wad of cash they can also be very negotiable. One word of warning when dealing with him...never make your deal over the phone or by email. Come and see him in person. Much safer for you that way...sometimes things change between the time you communicate with him and the time you come to pick up your treasure. He's quite an eccentric fellow.

Found this and It seems an entire junkyard out in Maxwell, Nebraska, is shutting down and liquidating its inventory. Fortunately, they’re sending their 50-year collection of 1940s to 1970s cars to auction July 17, 2011. Unfortunately, these are the kinds of auctions at which the " Japan Supporting S****pers " clean up unless cl***ic car enthusiasts outbid them. We see mostly American iron here, and mostly full-size sedans and station wagons at that, though there seems to be a good number of Corvairs. Check the Fowlkes Auction page for more.

THANKS for posting this notice (with LEAD time, too!:D),
OneMintCaddy!!! Maybe not all the old junkyards can be
saved from the crushers:(, BUT if guys like you will just do
your best to spread the WORD when it's about to go
down, SURELY at least some good project and parts
    cars can be saved!!!

Heads up, everybody! OneMintCaddy has provided a
MONTH of advance notice on this one. Roy's on I-80,
just east of Maxwell, Nebraska, July 17 public auction!
Get 'em, or the s****pers will.

Honestly, it's a damned shame when owners choose (or
are forced, by cir***stances or authorities) to close up.:(
But there are some darn good project cars in these drier
states west of the Mississippi! Just looks at the 2-door
hardtops and long roofs! WOW.:) This yard is VERY well
kept, and Mother Nature has been pretty good, too,
considering they're sitting in the open.

Would I love to be able to teleport to Nebraska and
spend some hours getting lost at Roy's Auto
    (Cadwallader's)!:p

I bet some of these would only need a fresh battery and gas to come back to life.
I wish there was something like this closer to where I live.:(

  26. Lets caravan out there, I have a trailer, but I get first dibs on the Henry J !!!!!

HAMBer Dan Greenberg of Parker, Colorado, is not only a great pro photog technically, he has a keen artist's eye that channels his talent. THAT is an understatement! :D Somehow, I stumbled onto his links right here on the HAMB for several great portfolios. Without going over the top, I'll just say that his work is a joy to just sit and review, as though you were in a fine-arts museum. Lots of HAMBers rave about original patina, and Dan's post-shoot work really sets patina off. The computer enhancement is exaggerated in some cases for effect, but in most cases it is just pleasingly complimentary to his subject. He arms himself with a Nikon and posts via PBase folios.

BTW, despite the open-air setting, this is not a "junkyard," at least not in any ordinary sense. In Dan's own words: "This collection of cars and other vehicles were gathered from all over by Duane [Hayes] whose love for old cars prevented them from being s****ped or crushed in many cases. These cl***ic salvaged cars and trucks have all sorts of wonderful and beautiful old peeling paint and in some cases rust on them. Most are available for sale, or to provide parts for restoration projects."

I hope you all enjoy a few advance samples of Dan's fine work. I have asked him to post his shots ANY old time he pleases. Such talent can only improve this collection and provide lots of future enjoyment for Vintage Tin lovers! THANKS, Dan!:)

BTW, though Dan shoots for his own enjoyment, he does sell quite a few of his images in crystal-clear, fine-art format! This info is for any HAMBer or just car nut wishing some really QUALITY images for his/her den or garage!;)
