Took a trip out to my favorite salvage yard today....when you wonder where do old engines go to die..... <!-- / message --><!-- attachments -->
IF they were around here ... they would have been in the crusher when s**** went to over 14 dollars a hundred
At least they are sitting in Colorado and not somewhere humid like Florida, you might be able to rebuild a few of them as long as they weren't tossed there because they were junk.
I've often wondered what compels some people to just discard stuff out in the elements like that - it's not piled up - just layed out in rough rows. Why not s**** it out and put some cash in his pocket? Why not offer the engines for sale before they were too far gone? Same thing with these dimwits that are surrounded by abandoned car/trucks. "I'm gonna give it to Junior (Samples?)"..."I'm gonna restore that pretty soon"...."Saw one of them on Barehead-Jacksum go for big bux".... I have a decent line of patter and I've talked some of those hoarders out of a few cars, but some of them are just stumps, and you can't do a thing with them. Maybe I need to be down south somewhere - the "Pickers" seem to figure out how to separate some folks from their "treasures". Of course, they usually don't air the episodes where Mike and Frank were ******ed off the property at the business end of a SxS 12ga ****tergun. Congress needs to p*** a law - anyone retaining a vehicle made before 1964 that has not been viewed, worked on, or licensed in more than five years has to publish it for sale, on the HAMB only and the price cannot exceed the original MSRP in the year it was built. Gee....wonder if I ought to run for office.... dj
just well seasoned blocks thats all king richards brother used to water his new blocks said it made them harder ?
When I was in X-Ray school in Tyler, Tx (82-84), there was a foundry outside of town, on Hwy 69, that had huge piles of engines/trans. Piles, more like mountains. Even back then, Hydros (the cast iron ones) always caught my attention, and there were hundreds/thousands of them in those piles of s****; all waiting to be turned into man-hole covers, and the like. Butch/56sedandelivery.
hmm theres a junkyard by me with a bunch of old cars and trucks and none of them have engines, so thats where they went.....
OJ: Yes they do have flatheads; stacked on racks...my last count was around 20. I bought a block (never been bored and no cracks) he guarantees the parts - if there is an issue he will refund your money or give you a different one - your choice) from them last December and it is going into my car shortly....<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
Why is it when someone sees motors lying around like that rusty and all they ***ume they are junk? Is it lack of knowledge or just the rust automatically makes them junk? I think the word we use is "seasoned" they are the best ones to use, they have been through the heat and cool cycle and are done moving around. Perfect blocks in my eyes!
Kinda cool and eerie, looks almost like a real graveyard.Engines look like headstones, wonder if there are cars underneath them.Just kidding, but that would be some ****.
A truck load of flatheads and a few shots of the cars from the same yard <!-- / message --><!-- attachments -->
