i may get it running do the brakes gas tanks etc before i really tear into it .but that seems like something i would skip over for some reason. i really want to put a 331 caddy into it. chrome everything with a stick behind it.black or burgandy car with a tobacco interior with matching top . i would realllly like to put bags on this car but i hate to cut the frame apart on such a rare car.

    decisions decisions....

    Please, no bags. :)

Maybe just a bit of level static lowering.

Way too cl***y and rare to mess up the suspension. Caddy would be cool; just do enough ch***is mods to make it keep up with traffic, handling good, good brakes, higher gears.

Just lower it to enhance style. NO bags or other latemodel stuff.

I think you have more expertise than me, but let me know if I can be of any help. Here's my '38 at Santa Maria a couple of weeks ago:

Also, ***uming you're going to take a lot of detail photos before you take it apart, I'd love to be able to look at them. There are a number of things on my car where I've wondered how it was "supposed" to be.

I'll look forward to seeing your progress. Mine will be getting a 383 this winter.

Right now mine has a 350/350 combo, but I always wanted to make it "mas Mopar". I was going to go 360 till I realized that the big block is actually slightly shorter than the small block. With that plus the dizzy in the front on the BBM I'm hoping not to have to modify the firewall to get it in.

The long water pump 350 fits with stock firewall, but is a little tight lengthwise (I had to run a pusher fan), and the Mopar is a bit longer still, so I won't really know how things fit till I try.

    Hey Flop,

Congrats on the purchase of the DeSoto..................

Jus' some questions: Do ya wanna build a Low Rider, Whada bouta Street Rod? If the answer to both these questions is NO! Forget about the 350/350, frame clips, bags & that god awful overcleared urethane paint............all signs you've entered the dredded STREET ROD ZONE!

Step back, light a good seegar & think bout it:) They built 992 drop top DeSotos in 1937. If you deside you want out in a year or two, and have already cut this one up, good luck getting your money back ,labor & hard cash.

And cutting up a rare vehicle doesn't make you " be a man" anymore than going to church makes you the pope!

The Street Rod sites must be really boring these days:confused:

hey pimpin! ive had this car since i was 19 so about 7 years now just been sitting on a a back burner finally think i am capable of working on it the way it should be. the body will not get changed in any way...a very nice interior.but now i would love to drive the car. thats why i was thinking 50s caddy motor and a 5 speed.just a little hunch that flat 6 wouldnt cut it to lets say texas and back. but im start the metal and go from there.

If modifying the car gets you on the road behind the steering wheel, enjoying the car as you should, then do it. I think some guys actually forget what cars are for, on here sometimes...
