For a SBC, what would be the traditional hot rod vintage dual quad setup? What intake/carbs were sought after in the 50's and 60's?

For me it would be an Edelbrock or Wyand manifold with 2 409 AFB carbs.

I love the looks of a full dress 2X4 Corvette motor, the Valve covers and the air cleaners make the package. Add some white headers to really make it period looking. JMO...

Yep to Vette stuff....later aftermarket manifolds with 409 carbs (AFBs) are just fine, I've run nearly a dozen combos like that. But...you asked specifically about 50s and 60s - 409s had only been out a year or two prior to the self-enforced 64 cutoff of the HAMB...so, mostly all 2x4 sbc hot rod motors used the vette setup.

    Yep! That's it!!!!!

  13. SBC - ID say vette stuff.

    Not to hijack but

    What about stromberg aeroquads?
I have an Edmunds 2x4 for Chrysler hemi that was designed to utilize those carbs.

That would dial the period back to early -mid 50s I think.

Yeah.....They aren't cheap. Sometime, I'll be needing some carbs for my 2x4 Caddy. I'll probably see if a pair of new Edelbrock AFB's can be adapted to the intake.

I think those carbs are off Dodge or Chrysler, the GM carbs have a arm with a counterweight that opens the secondaries.

Yeah, they're both 55 chrysler carbs [both have same number tags] with the wierd vacuum secondaries..I'm trying to come up with a way to change them over to mechanical secondaries as they're in pretty good condition.

I plan on running this CLONE setup, made from 2 1957 chevy carbs. Numbers dont matter to me. Besides these two carbs, will flow more air than the original setup.
