I have a 51 Fleetline that I want to put airride on. The front, no problem! But the rear?! Yeah I know how it can be made...4 link, bags and C notch etc. But thats the problem! My cars is totaly rustfree and solid, I dont have the heart to cut it up, and i dont want to lay bumpers, just almost and only when parked, not driving. And the saftyinspection can be a problem when they see that the rearend in far from stock. I have been thinking about this, to make it simple and function well. I know the rear axle will hit the frame so a bumpstop must be made so the axel will lay on before hitting the frame, (when totally lowered). Would it be possible to build a own link system, not 4-link, using the stock leafspring brackets? (Otherwise just weld some new in). Today I was surfing around on Youtube and saw this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yobmND-3hGY Thats what I want!!!! No cutting out trunk floors and frame. Because It will only be used when parked! Where can I find a symstem like this? Anyone here who have built one or have some pictures? Ideas! Let me know! Thanks!
what about a mono leaf set-up for rearend position (using the same leaf perches) and using either spendy shockwave shock/airbag combo to replace your existing shocks or us air shocks and run a fitting out the back to air up or release air, (cheap route). Just some thoughts, Im sure others will have betters ones for ya.
That could work too! I wonder what the safety inspection will say, but thats another story. I woul love to see more pics on a setup like the one in the movie. Hmm....
doubt you'll see any pics of that here be it thats not the way it should be done. Just might be your only way.. and WTF is safety inspection?
Some states and countries inspect vehicles annually to make sure your car isn't a rolling deathtrap. With a stock rear, something like 5" or 6" and the driveshaft hits the tunnel too.
Also found this clip when I followed your link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA31Ln-V8uc&feature=related Looks like a clean set up ...but is it for show only or how will the bags handle the forces and weight thats applied from the body/frame in the downwards direction, when going down the road !?? / primerkid
