Here's my problem...I sold this '30 Tudor to a pal. Then I find out that the doors don't fit. (He hasn't paid yet, so it's no big deal)

I heard that all '30-'31 Tudor and truck doors are the same size and will interchange. I have a '31 truck door here that I measured and it is 29 1/8" wide at the body line, and 43 1/2" tall approx.

My sedan door opening shows these dimensions also.(doors are currently not mounted)...so I guess that's true.

However, the doors that came with this sedan are 27 3/4" wide at the belt line and 42 7/8" tall approx.

My question is...are these '30/'31 coupe doors, or are they '28/'29 doors...and if so, what type body style?

Here's pics of the doors for the sedan that don't fit...

The doors shown are for a coupe. Sedan and pickup doors do not have that stamped curve shape around the window crank on the inside of the door. They are 30-31.

30/31 coupe doors worth about x2 of a truck or sedan door

  4. Gotta be coupe doors. 28-29 bodyline is much wider, flatter, and just different. I know a guy with mint 30-31 sedan doors, but last I knew he wanted a lot for them. I can check if you need em.

the selling of the coupe doors shouldnt be too hard

  8. Model A Sedan doors shouldn't be that hard to come by. I doubt you will have any problem selling the sedan.

Larry, I know you've pretty much got your answer, but I wanted to add photos and measurements for others who may search in the future for door identification.

Also worth noting are the obvious differences. The 28/29 has one broad flat belt line, where the 30/31 has a rounded double belt line. Also on the 30/31 there is a bead at the bottom edge of the door, where there is none on the earlier.

Other models may be different, I don't have them here right now to measure.

28/29 Coupe measured at the beltline and center vertically.
    Width 29 1/8"
    Height 44"

    Width 27 5/8"
    Height 43"

I had no idea the Coupe doors were worth more than the Tudor Sedan/Pickup doors. Aside from the length difference, are they the same visually on the outside?

I was told you could put Sedan doors on a Coupe to get a little more legroom in there!

I saw a '30/'31 sedan door sell yesterday on that auction site for $370...are coupe doors worth more than that? They aren't rusted out anywhere.

$400 for a 30/31 couple door would be about average, 30/31 sedan/truck doors are usually about $200

of course there are examples of both that are really high or low as always, coupe doors only fit coupes so just a little harder to come by, coupe hinge sets go for $300 so there's some value there also although I can't tell if you have both sides

if you put sedan doors on a coupe you would have to extend the roof

Yes, they are longer. Like the famed Green Grenade.

  17. For what it's worth, I have a pair of 30-31 sedan (? they were loose so who knows what they came on) doors I scrounged that while not great, have solid skins all the way down. I wanted to see if I could use them on a late '31 Budd cab pickup and... the hinges are a couple inches higher up on one than on the other, they will not directly interchange. I was surprised because I also thought the same deal, they would swap.

Now the same set of doors fits up to my fordor cowl just fine, and the set of doors that was originally on that cowl worked okay on a mystery cowl I sold a couple years ago (I just cobbed up the scroungest pieces into a pickup cab on a frame stub).

Of course now I have to figure out how to save some frozen hinges, but that's another story.

Yeah, but Larry could have done this one the exact opposite... SHORTEN the roof on the sedan and run the coupe doors!

What's the exact size of a 30 sedan door, will it match a coupe cowl?

I think the green grenade used sedan doors. You will have to lengthen the roof over the door and lengthen the subrail as I believe sedan doors are a little longer.

sooooo.....my extra doors do not have the guts on the inside - and they will fit my 1930 Cabroliet-which should be the same as a roadster - right? I was told when I bought the extra doors they were off a sedan???
