mine were in pretty good shape, but had some rust from the cracked rubber on top holding the moisture, so I took em off, sand blasted & primed them, then had them sprayed with black pick up bed liner, then I cut, shaped the ends into spear points, & punched some square holes for stainless cairage bolts ( 5/16" X 3/4" with nyloc nuts ) some 3/16" X 1" stainless bar stock... that's where they are right now... I need to polish the stainless yet, & add an edge piece on the bottom ( still trying to decide if I want to use the 1" bar stock, or shear some in the slightly wedge shape the boards hold... taller in the front, than the back ) here are mine ( still under construction ) ... let's see yours
thanks... I'm really a newbie to the collector cars, but have been fabricating jeeps & ATV's for competition & show forever... I should have gotten into the cars a long time ago...
No one else want to post pics of their unique boards ??? had a 36 Chevy next to me at a local show last week that had tuck & roll vinyl on his boards to match his interiour... never seen that one before... he said he'd had it done that way for 3-4 years, & it seemed to be holding up pretty good, though I'd expect they could be slippery when wet if someone actually ( heaven forbid ) had to use them... ( I've hauled around a couple of older gals lately, & glad I didn't have painted boards, when they actually stepped on them... one was a quite heavy lady... it was like watching slow motion watching the board bow down... but held up under the weight )
Mine were originally painted, but last year, I decided to change the look of the car a bit. I went to Menards and bught some black floor runner (rib design) and a buddy who does interiors, sprayed vinyl top glue on them and we laid the runner down. I had purchased a set of mouldings from Bob Drake for the lower edge, but they were about 4" too long. I cut them, reshaped the spear end and polished as needed. Worked out great. Stu
