Going to buy paint tomorrow or Thursday. Going to use PPG Concept color matched to DP 40 primer color. How do I get a flat finish WITHOUT getting dust in the paint. I know you can't rub it out. OR CAN YOU in any way and still maintain a FLAT finish.

Thanks for all the help with color selection guys

Only way to truly not get dust in the paint is to use a booth...I know tons of people well argue with me but it's the truth if you sit the nicest painted car that was done in a garage etc. Next to one don't in the booth same color and everything you'll see dirt...we did compar***ion tests like that one time panels always had dirt...

But to answer your question use flat clear and no you can't rub it out so no runs

well make sure you get in on shiney and that you are in a cool enviroment if you rush the paint with any kind of heat it will not get flat. wash the vehicle blow it off good jambs and any kind of openings so no dust is blown out. in reality if you get dirt in it you wont notice it hardly. let me know if you have more questions good luck

clean and prep the shop and car the day before painting, hang a new piece of plastic in the shop [it will attract dust] come in the next day with clean clothes [don't pet your dog] wet the floor, tack rag, and spray. turn fan on to move just enough air to clear the room.

Wow, remind me not to use you as a painter! You must not have ever seen dirt in flat paint (or any paint satin or shiny) before. It looks like ****! You may not notice it, but everyone else does.

booth is the answer ,Just clean shop real good and leaf blow out dust wash car and air dry.You get dirt more from the car than whats in the air Washing floor and walls helps. But still in the air ....Im painting a door on firebird tomorrow and I blew the garage out and Ill soak the floor in the morning ................I dont have a booth ,I just cut the car.............

I just painted a truck for a friend in ppg and used the matting agent, it works pretty good( do some spray outs to pick what u want).. you are gonna get dirt no matter what but do like everyone is saying and prep like crazy and try to eliminate as much as u can

hate when people doubt me, i try not to sound like a know it all, but when it comes to a shiney job yes you will see the dirt but flat its harder im not blind by no means and i have painted my share of flats from diamont, cintary, ppg, hot rod flats, and dirt is hardly noticable unless you just have a big chunk of s..t in it.

90% of the dirt is on the car before you begin to spray, dosen't matter if you spray in a paint booth or outside. It is all in the prep work. When was the last time you saw big chunks in the air. Your nose would be full of dirt.

Something my dad used to do when he painted cars in the garage was wet down the floor. Even if you are walking around in a shallow puddle, you just have to be careful not to splash! Also made cleaning up the floor afterwards that much easier as well.
