I know where a Zephyr V-12 is, guy says it's a 1943, but as far as I know all we were building in 43 was planes, tanks, bombs, etc..... I could be wrong however. Wants $975 for it. I have absolutely no use for it, but was thinking of buying it anyways. There is a guy here in Mi with a bad*** phaeton with a V-12 in it, was in the ba*****t at Autorama this year.. Hmm..... James
Determining that it's a Lincoln should be your first priority. If it is indeed a Zephyr, your second prioity should be getting it out of his hands and into yours (legally, of course). THEN...you can figure out "what to do with it" as I'm quite sure you'll have tons of offers if you decide to sell it, or as many suggestions on how to build it. dj
Last time I bought one I sold the engine alone for way more than that before I got the car home.. good buy for $975 if the engine is in any way useable.
so...is there going to be a happy ending to this story? Tell me you bought it....post up a picture. Inquiring minds want to know... dj
The best reason in the world for a new hot rod, "but honey , I've already got all the parts, now all I need is . . . . . . .
With Sellers making finned heads and 3x2 intakes, makes the old V-12 alot more appealing. Now if we can get him to make us some Speed Parts for the 337....
Wow, I didn't even know Sellers made Zephyr parts. For the longest time the only one making fiined V12 heads was the Kearny Foundry out of San Jose Ca. They also do the 3 x 2 intake. Ken Austin makes a beautiful 2 x 2 and 3 x 2 for the V12. Good luck with your motor.
As far as I know they never had 1943 Zephyrs. In 1942 were the last year which had the bigger bore other than 1946 to 1948 Lincoln. Frenchy
Definitely make sure its usable because they are one pricey motor to rebuild, especially if it is an early poured babit motor. The later ones were insert bearings and this should be if its a 40's v12. Parts like hydraulic lifters are expensive as well. The speed parts are on a different planet from V8s. They do look cool but are expensive.
Haven't you heard the song? Just put a Model a body on it. "That story is true I'm here to say, I was driving that Model A."
There was 1 for sale at the swap meet at the Good Guys Show a few weeks ago here in Colorado. Its was a 4 door sedan,a real claen runner !! He was asking 11 - 16 thousand ? Sorry no pictures, 1941 ?
If anybody wants one around NorCal, I have a bunch of '46 stuff- one complete engine/OD trans (with the hard to find OD solenoid) and everything for a second one except the block & pistons- so there's two intakes, carbs, exhaust manifold complete with a head pipe, heads, water pumps, oil pans, flywheels, clutches, complete front & rear axles with brakes 'n springs, friction shocks and extra rear end & tube stuff, 5 original script wheels, guides 'n valves, extra magged crank and set of rods, trans parts, lotsa stuff- all for $2500. I was going to put it in my '55 F100 for shock value, but sold the truck. Too much **** and too many projects, come and get it
The bigger bore engines were also unfortunately more prone to overheating because of the thinner cylinder walls. Lots of owners of those Lincolns at the time opted for junking the engines and swapped in later model V8 flatties or the just becoming available OHV engines.
