This is a PM I got today and it makes me wonder if this is a scam or what. This is from a guy with no posting and wants to give me free spot lights. I thought I would share and see if anybody else got anythin like it or have been scamed by this.

It just seems very not true.

The wording of the whole thing makes it seem kinda fishy. Did you post a wanted add or anything?

Ever heard the saying, if it seems too good to be true....
    Who is the member?
You can always contact any mod. or Ryan. Forward the PM to one of them.

And as for me, I am carefully. You need to be carefully!

  5. So, you give him an address to send them to, and then what? How does the scam work, do you suddenly get a pile of gay **** mags with bills for the subscriptions or something?

Could be a genuinely nice guy that has parts he doesn't need. But i highly doubt it. I would imagine next he will ask for you to send him prepaid shipping.

Why would he send YOU an offer like that ? Were you looking for parts ? Did he give his name & where he lives in the PM ? AND, most importantly, did he mention your name anywhere in the info he sent ?

If you can't give good answers to those above questions...figure it's a "blind" PM and is a scam. Further, if you give him an address to send the stuff to - whether he sends it our not - he will have YOUR ADDRESS ! If it IS a scam, he might not send you a "bill" for postage & handling...he, or one of his friends, might come over some night and steal YOUR STUFF !!!

IF it is legit, he will give you HIS name & contact info...then you can check-it out to see if it is real. Yes, it would be nice if it WAS real.

    Think about it.

No doubt, and as mentioned, the wording reminds me of the Nigerian email scams, but I'd have it shipped to your work addy.
It could be someone who inherited the parts and would rather see them go to a good cause and is not interested in $$$.
Being a long time Little League coach, I've had several occasions over the years where total strangers show up to the field and hand over a load of really nice gear (gloves, bats, balls, catchers gear) that's been taking up space in their garage. Their intention was always to see it go to good use.

Ask for pictures, that usually stops all contact. This happened to me with parts for my Es*** on another forum. Everytime I would ask to see pictures of the parts, I would get a small picture of a complete show car that was obviously copied off of the internet. If you get good reliable pictures, tell him to ship them, and you'll reimburse the charges as soon as they arrive, no harm done.

Now, if you receive a lifetime subsciption to ****** don't come after me!

sounds fishy-as others have said don't give him your name/address or you could get all kinds of stuff send to your house and the bills too. Had a friend pull this on me once--sent the ****o junk-when I found out after a while it was him, I had 6 yds of river rock delivered to his house and dumped in his driveway-didn't cost much back then but what a mess to move.

  17. I had a friend pull this trick with a fellow prankster, yet with a mound of fill dirt dumped in front of the garage, on the drive way. It took a week of shoveling dirt to clear it all away, so that the car could be parked into the garage. And a big crack in the concrete drive way was left as a reminder not to mess around with certain vengeful friends.

  18. Hes fishing for your address.
As already stated, "if it sounds to good to be true".
Maybe hes got the spot lights, and needs the car to go with them. :D

I am not going to touch this PM I just wanted all the fellow HAMBER's to know that they are doing this and to beware. I agree that if it is to good to be true then it is. Nothing in this world now a days is free especially new parts. Just trying to spread the word and stop scams from happening to innocent peolple. We all work to hard to have **** bags steal our hard earned money and things. I have noticed a rash of car thieves going around so this may be one of those rings wanting my address to come steal ****, but they need to be ware I will and do practice the second amendment. Come and get some is all I can tell them!!!!!!

    Yeah, sounds like a scam.
Before when i had my older cars, I was always worried about people following me home, now that I got another old car (first in long time) I am worried about people driving by and seeing me work on it. For this reason, I woke up one night to find someone backing a flatbead trailor up to my driveway to steal my 21 Window VW Bus, I ran after him with a baseball bat (yeah maybe not the smartest, it was the first thing that popped in my mind), another time someone was trying to break into my 65 camper bus. They are VWs, yes but are $$.
So sounds like he may want your address, in my mind is to scope on what you got.

Is his area on his info the same as yours? If so ask for his address so you can pick it up, or say you have a friend in the area that can pick up. But then if he's on the board he's probably watching all this.

As fishy as it sounds, I have done this very same thing. I have given stuff away once in a while to complete strangers if it's been collecting dust and I know I'm not likely to use it. Just get his contact info, find a hamber in his area and have him checked out. You never know til you try...
