I bought a sheet of 1/4" laminated bronze gl*** and I'm gonna try to cut it myself. I'm doing it myself mostly because everybody around here ****s donkey *** andcharge too much. Any pointers would be appreciated.
Make a good pattern First! Hardboard, Masonite works well and fit it in the car, just like gl***. Practice cutting on some s**** ! Straight cuts are easiest. Don't force the gl*** to break. Oil the gl*** cutter. P M me your phone #. I can talk you thru it!!!!!!.........OLDBEET
Is this for the '54? My driver's window is cracked and I was surprised at how cheap the gl*** could be bought from Chev's of the 40's. All of the side gl*** ranged from $60-$80 if I recall.
With lami you need to score both sides with the cutter then spray some denatured alcohol on it, light it, this will make the laminate soften up and make it easier to cut. At least this is how we did it when I work at my friends gl*** shop, will be harder with curved gl*** but doable. Farmall
Holy **** 60-80. The last place I went to get a side windows charged me 70 for 3 windows. The rear ones were a little more because of the curves. I would try to call a few gl*** companies instead of auto gl*** places. They have always been more reasonable in pricing and do a better job in my opinion. Since you already have gl*** I bet it would even be cheaper. -Nick
Well despite old beet's excellent talk through on the phone, I failed miserably. I gave it a shot, I thought I could do it but obviously I can't.....yet. I guess it takes practice. Old Beet, thank you very much for your time, it was worth it just to yap to you on the phone, you're a real gentleman. I've still got some s**** left, I'll keep trying maybe I'll get better at it.
