  4. I think you should be able to ask for help and doesn't matter if you have 10 or 10,000 posts, the main problem I see is people ANSWERING questions when they don't have a clue with just random dumbass crap.

I foresee a few FNG's reading this thread, taking offense, crying about it, possibly cussing and getting this thread locked or deleted...just saying. We were all noobs, I asked questions and still do, we just need to edjumacate the ones that piss us off...lol.

Unfortunately, there's this stigma with being a "FNG" around here, mainly because they're pointed out to be less than a "real" hot rodder. So what do they do? Post a bunch of stupid stuff to increase their post count and become a "real" member. You're just fueling the fire my friend.

Honestly though, we have NO idea who the FNG is...he may very well be a a guy with 40 years in the hobby who fabricated bodies from scratch. Nothing should be assumed...

  13. At one time I didn't have a clue.....now I just don't give a damn.:D Actually I just started reading stuff again in the past month or so....I just skim through and read the first few lines that pop up in the preview box and move on if it doesn't sound interesting (90-95% of the time) I got burned out on this place and needed a break and got back into the real world and started working in the garage again. I still use it as a primary research place via the search function, but rarely post anymore......seems alot of "old timers" are lurking too.

The thing that bugs me the most is when someone asks a question, for instance what year did Ford introduce a V8 in his automobiles. The answer; 1932. There will be 126 posts saying 1932. Unfortunately, all 126 posts saying 1932 aren't from FNG's.......just my opinion.......Mike

I think it should be easy to join the HAMB.

No matter who you know, what you know, or where you live.

What does get a little annoying ( and time consuming for us ) are the New Users that do not take the time to familiarise themselfs with the Site.
And start posting all kinds of stuff that is not On Topic or Relevant for a Site that concentrates on Traditional Hot Rods and Traditional Customs.
( and/or create a lot of Drama when their Off Topic stuff gets Deleted...)

I am just going to point out that this thread is one of the threads that is pushing the real posts of people that have real issues they need help with down to page 3. Pot calling the kettle black if you ask me.

    +1 for my post count.

We were all FNG's at one time!

But yes some of them do post weird stuff. But most of them only last a few posts though. Have you ever looked at the members list most people have only posted like 5 or less times and have been on here for at least 3 years.

I understand your point, esp. in the selling of stuff, but I think that the typical FNG is coming aboard when they are starting project, many for the first time. As result, they are going to be asking a lot of specific questions up front. I must admit that I was in that category some years ago. Now my project is done & I find myself actually answering questions. Maybe it's the nature of the beast?

I'm a big boy with over 2 decades repairing vehicles to pay the bills...passed my Journeyman exam in the top 4% in the country. If I post something useless or dumb, please let me know---you can't hurt my feelings! Right now I'm still gettin' used to the place! I tend to not ask questions unless I have explored every avenue myself (That's the shop foreman in me...), but am more than willing to offer assistance to those who ask and have explored all avenues for themselves first. You will be more likely to find my avatar attached to technical questions asked by others; offering advice or fixes based on my experiences in the Live Shop atmosphere. Modern machinery is my specialty, but I began at dad's knee when I was old enough to retain what he taught me and am the only one at the Dealership who knows how carbs work and can actually set them up--the service manager's accountant INSISTS that I be the only one who works on his GTO, and he pays 120/hour at a Toyota dealership for that privelege. If I piss anyone off, let me know---
