Google Street View Reveals 1963 Split Window Corvette Barn Car

by KEITH CORNETT on FEBRUARY 24, 2009

You can find all kinds of websites dedicated to displaying the more interesting photos that have come from Google’s Street View project and now you can add a 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe to list. This Corvette was recorded by a street view camera in Spokane, Washington. From the looks of how this Corvette has been stored, the only thing missing from this barn car appears to be the barn.

You’ll see from the supporting photos that this is indeed a 1963 Corvette Coupe. A Washington state license plate and an extra set of taillights adorn the sting ray’s rear. Also, notice the Corvette is stored outdoors with the passenger window either down or missing. It rains a lot in Washington, doesn’t it? Instead of keeping the address to ourselves in case we feel the need to one day trek across the country in search of an allusive sting ray, you can find it here.

    Update:
According to some at the NCRS Discussion Boards, this is a numbers matching fuelie that’s been sitting since 1975.

That's not a neighborhood you want to go wondering around in either. You might become a recipient of a bullet... or three.

I know it's not because it's fiberglass but it almost looks like it's rusting...lol. :D

The body is the least of your worries. What do you suppose the frame looks like? I'd turn it into a hot rod anyway just to piss off the NCRS 'vette crowd.

I like how they say its a "numbers matching" car. Who the f#$k knows unless they looked at the engine, trans and all that stuff. Looks to me like its still sitting there un touched. Very cool find though.

I do NOT like that Google can just take pictures of my land, and put it up on the internet without consent for EVERYONE to see. What's in my front and backyard is my business.

    PS....cool save.

I'd be pissed if someone posted a picture of my cars and my address on the net, especially if it's on a car related message board. I bet gawkers and buyers looking for a killer deal started showing up after the info was posted.

    There is no privacy anymore...

  16. Too sinister for my liking, anyone can look at your stuff. Bet theres a whole lota theiving scumbags checking out peoples stuff. The old days of thieves casing your joint, where they just parked down the street, can now be done from their homes.

One day, I asked my buddy (he rides with me to car shows) if he wanted a drill press. He said yes, so I hauled it over to his house. He opened his garage and sitting on one side of the garage is a car under a cover. The shape is unmistakable, it's a Corvette. I ask him when he bought the Vette? He pulls the cover off and it's a '63 Split Window. He said he bought it new. He really wanted a '63 Impala with a 409 and 4 speed but the dealer would have to order it.

My friend met the owner of the dealership while landscaping. The owner said, "You can have any car for $3500". The salesman let him drive a Corvette and he bought it. It has a 327 and 4 speed. It currently has 125K on the odometer.

After that, I told him to drive himself to car shows...............

  19. Mixed feelings about this. I know for damn sure if I had something sitting on my property, I wouldn't want it plastered all over the internets for every thief, tire kicker, low baller and high-pressure shark in the world to see. True, while you can obviously see it from the street, a guy driving by isn't telling the whole planet.
I don't believe in any sort of obligation on the owner's part to do something with it or sell it to someone who will. It's his car to do what he pleases with, and he may have very well been happy letting it rot. The link has a bit that reads "Someone had to save it", which I don't necessarily agree with. I'd like to know how the sale went down. Was the owner happy to sell it, or did the buyer beat him over the head until he relented. I wonder if it stayed local or went across country? I wonder if it will be restored and driven, or just stuck in a warehouse to appreciate in value? I guess I'm glad it got rescued since it was all original and all there. If it were to become mostly aftermarket or repop stuff, you didn't really "save" it.
None of my business, I guess.

Pictures of that Vette were posted on a thread on here some time ago. Some of the Spokane guys were familiar with that car and what ever the story was with it, even before the google map thing.

  21. I saw this neat custom Vette in California parked on the street. It had shagg carpet and a broken window!

  22. Jeeze, the only Corvette I've seen like that here was like an '82 that was wrecked, not hard but the body had a couple big broken chunks. Yuck. I like the 63-67 Corvettes, I'd rather find one of those.

Funny thing is we heard guys in the next booth at the restaurant we went to talk about "the Corvette in pieces under the tree" then when we left the place, we took a left instead of a right and ended up driving right by it.

  23. if you google map my old house it still shows my plymouth in the driveway and my buddies 54 ford in the driveway!i don't care...

that's always a shame. I know where there's 2 58's the guy keeps grown up in tall grass to intentionally disguise them. they're in the "gonna build um some day" category. the only saving grace is he was working on a 57 chev HT last time I saw him so it's possible he might actually build them someday.
