M lag check out Aerostars for the drop.... Join the Edsel group too and I have befores and afters. That roof tent duck blind is awesome. Back bumper is...?
"What If" Edsel had offered a wagon in their senior series? In 1958, FoMoCo's new car offered 4 models. Two junior models were based on a Ford shell, with a 118" wheelbase. Two senior models were based on the big Mercury shell, with a 124" wheelbse. All Edsel wagons were Ford based. We've corrected that here, with a full blown luxury version, comparible to the Mercury Colony Park wagon. This one would have been for the up and coming middle class family, who wanted the latest in destinctive styling. The big Edsel 410 cube, 345 h.p. V8 would have rocketed that family to their vacation destinations. Welcome to the Jet Age.
I am thinking the front bumpers from a 59 Edsel that were narrowed up. I would like the looks of them better if they would have completely filled in and chromed the turn signal opening. Putting the red fillers in there makes them look kind of cheesy IMO.
Thanks for the help with the parts for our Villager! Are you guys parting more cars? You may have lots more customers posting pics like that on this thread!!!! You dog.....
Yes, a lot of the Edsels my dad has in the yard are parts cars. BTW his current Edsel count is just a few cars under 200.
Edsel is not a bad car if you do the right things to them. I see very few of them, but the are unique.
Notice in the prototype sketches, that one is a direct copy of the Tucker! 200 Edsels... Oh my! That RULES. As long as people are posting Edsel influenced, you've all seen this truck we built. From our site...
This is my Pacer. Just finished an engine rebuild and a C6 swap. It had a 55 merc column, steering box and steering wheel. Shortened the column (So it now looks like the ones without teletuch) and swapped for a 60 ford box. Aerostar springs and 3" blocks. Just waiting for my chrome reverse, Firestone bias with 2 1/4 white wall and lake pipes to arrive to Sweden in the end of the summer.
Sorry, darlin'. . .been wrapping up a chaotic end of year at skool (don't even get me started on the last 6 weeks of my life ). . .I'm just now starting to "get my life back." Edsels, ya say? Yup, I've got 2 and will be getting to work on both of them starting next week. . .floorpans and trunk pan for the '60, and sanding, with the hopes of finally getting Audrey, the '59, in paint by end of summer. . . Apologies for missin' this thread, just been busy as hell. . .but I did hear the call of the Edsel, even through the chaos. I love this thread. . .and all who appreciate Edsels as much as I do. . .
The new timing chain broke along with the lower sprocket when running on the starter, so I only had a couple of bent pushrods. Before that and the final adjustments I only got out 280 hp att 4300 rpm. Made som adjustments after that but no more pulls. Its pretty mutch original, just a HP camshaft and an RPM intake. I think the 361 E400 was far from the claimed 303 hp from the factory. Ive heard there was an article in Hot Rod in 1958 when they tested it.
You mean brand new stock in 1958 it didn't make the 303hp? Was 303/400 claimed at crank or at tires? If someone could find that article I'd like to read it. When I rebuild mine it's getting an aluminum intake. That should take about 200lbs off the frOnt end. And hi to Texas. Way to make a fashionably late appearance.... You don't have any more pictures than that???? C'mon.
The horsepower and torque ratings were gross horsepower ratings at the crankshaft. If that engine was rated under the same horsepower ratings that today's cars are it would be somewhere in the 210 HP range. Here's a link to a good article about gross vs net horsepower.
Here I am , changin gears, some buttons missing, you from know where.. :O( Elli Edsel is eqquipped with 3spd + Overdrive. with 3.70 gears. from June 2010:

Those are some cool videos. I'll have to see if I can find the link for the video of us racing through the desert on the way home from VLV.
I have loved 58/59 edsels for last 20 years, several years ago, my wife admitted that she wants Edsel too, and said to me that I can trade our 1964 Galaxie to Edsel.. But now I own both, weel I promised to sell our Camaro.. Managed to sold it one month ago... I do not want to sell our Galaxie... oh I love my Wife , together since 1985.

A-Y8...any advice/tricks on putting the C6 behind the old Edsel V/8? do you have the 361? my FMX is toast and I would really like to do that swap...Thanks

Here are some Edsels that here in Newfoundland. Most are owned by one collector. Sorry the coral/black/white 58 Pacer 2dr. is not a Nfld car. I had it saved in my pics.
That last Coral one is Marcus E's new ride. Looking sharp. Those others are all beautiful examples. It's good to see so many in one place and owned by someone who appreciates them.
M Edsel, I put one of those power brake booster kits on my wife's 59 Ranger. It fit OK & works fine, but I had to mod the bracket to clear the pedal brace bolts. Not a big thing, just a couple of notches.
In my humble opinion, I think this is one of the coolest iconic rides out there today, and that we will see a time when they are priced high and heavily sought after. They should be know as they are one of the greatest builds ever, just way ahead of the time and rushed to the sales floor without enough testing and trial. I love em, alway have, always will. That's my story and I am sticking to it. R.I.P. Mr. Edsell Ford, forward thinking member of the automotive clan. ~sololobo~
The C6 conversion gave me more worke than I thoutht it would. The original cruiso in my car was from a Mercury witch has a longer tailshaft, som I had to change tailshaft. Get a new starter and flexplate, found an already modyfied original xmember (just a cut out for the oilpan), and new cooling lines and shift linkage.
