Went to Montgomery yesterday to see the Power Tour 2011. There were a lot of newer cars but I was supprised to see the good old cars and trucks there. Many have done the tour before and were going for the long haul.
IT WAS HOTTTTT! About 103 durring the day not counting the heat index. Some of the people just could not take the heat and had to get medical attention. It was Hot!!
The old Dodge truck off of GEARS (cherry bomb) was broken down on the highway as we were leaving. Must have been the heat. Did I say that it was HOT.

  2. Wanting to join the tour from Indy to say southbend. My question is I don't know if u can just kinda jump in with them on the road. Don't mind paying just can't make it to Indy wed. To "register" for the next days leg.

Geez they are travelling public roads aren't they. You do pay road use tax when you buy fuel, you also pay taxes to Indiana don't you, and there is always that Freedom of ***embly thing.

  4. Good point, I own the road after all

Yes, of course you can jump in anywhere on the road BUT if you are going to the stop for the night you would need to be registered to pull into the area. In the past the Long Haul Gang would have their own section (the LH sticker for the car was different so parking folks knew who was a Long Hauler and who wasn't), then the other folks on the tour had their own parking area, and their sticker was different as well, THEN the people that just came to the venue for that day had a different parking area. Not sure if they still do it like that.

Anybody know if the Street Rodder Magazine tour car got it glitches worked out from last week?

Guess it could only go about 50 miles without quiting. Let it set a while and it was good to go again....

Took it to our very own Bubba's Hot Rod Shop in Speedway to have it diagnosed and fixed. Driver got real pissy, asking for the name of a "real hot rod shop" in Indy and left.

Bubba was trying to explain what was wrong, problem was the driver wouldn't get off the transmit ****on long enough to hear him out. I know if I was driving a high zoot box cutter special like that and didn't know jack **** about it, I would have been listening very carefully to everything Bubba was telling me.....

Yep, our club will be helping out with registration in Muskegon, MI for the last leg of the trip. Not all the cars are my bag but it's still a pretty cool thing they're doing.
Hope to see some traditional stuff that makes the journey!

Believe it had to be Dixey, don't know Janet.

Ironic part was, Bubba had pretty much targeted what the problem was when the driver started the BS about how he thought he was at a "real hot rod shop". Asked Bubba three times about where he (the driver) could find a "real hot rod shop" in Indy, that he obviously was not at one at that point in time.
Bubba said after the third off color remark, he told the driver he wouldn't be able to help him, walked back in the shop and went to work on a distributor.
True story, heard about this a breakfast last Saturday morning and the same story was backed up by the misses, who heard it all too.

Radio is really pushing the Power Tour stop here in Indy. The cars will be at the 500 Track tomorrow with free spectator entry. Would like to go see them but will more than likely have to work all day. Have missed alot of work over the past three weeks so far.
We have our annual Quality ***urance Audit all day tommorow so doesn't look like it will be in the cards for an early exit from work.

We had a club meeting at Culbertson's shop tonight. Got to see a bunch of nice cars drive by the shop. We had some club cars out front and within 30 minutes the lot was completey full of old cars needing repairs. They kept piling in one at a time.
First, a 65 Ford wagon out of Toronto with an exhaust problem.
Next a blue 57 Chevy from Florida needing a left rear wheel bearing.
Then a 72 Chevelle with a brake shuttle valve blowing brake fluid all over the engine compartment.
    A 56 Chevy with a bad front spindle/hub.
A 67 Chevelle with a fuel injected SBC that would not run.

    What a night.

I went to the Dayton leg of the Power Tour a couple years ago.You can jump in anywhere anytime. It only costs if you go into the facility they're parked in.All you get is a window sticker.Personally;I'd park outside & walk in.Prolly save $30 or more.

only got to go to nashville on tuesday.it was ok. had a much better time last year at the COKER TIRE party/run to b'ham. the guy who promotes it was real rude to some folks in nashville about parking. but it may have been a bad/hot/long day. (well i know it was a long and hot day) i'll give anybody a 2nd chance.

  20. I'm in Michigan now after doing my 1st power tour. Did the long haul starting from Chicago last Wednesday. I followed their route all the way. A good mix of 2 and 4 lane roads. Lots of new cars and muscle cars, but it's a good opportunity to get out and drive'em. You have to start out pretty early and stick with it to get to the next stop in time to check out the afternoons activities. The mix of people is pretty good and they all mix together fairly well. Sure I'd rather it be power tour of hot rods, and not Hotrods Power Tour. It is well run and lots of effort goes into putting it together. I say do a day or two or the whole week if you can. It beats sitting in a bag chair at cruise night.

We did the Power tour in our '34 Ford Coupe and drove 3715 miles. The car performed flawlessly. We spent time with special friends John and Dave in Cocoa Beach. The tour was awesome with a variety of interesting cars. The folks we met were all friendly and nice. The town of Muskegon did an amazing job and gave us a royal welcome. It was really cool to drive around both within the NASA complex and the GM Proving Grounds. It doesn't get much better than that!!!:)

  23. I took my track roadster downtown for a poker run Wed. night and parked it in one of the lots on Thursday. Had a great time, saw a lot of pals and some great cars. There's more to hot rods than a snapshot of just one era.

I made the long haul in the Coe. We had a great time. Gas tank leak and shifter cable stuck in drive added to the fun.

I was in Muskegon and then rode with a friend part of the way to
Detroit. He was having car troubles so did not go too far before heading home. I enjoyed it and put it on my to do list in the future.

Dixey should have used his Fellow Pages or called the guys in Bright who built the car if he thinks there's no hot rod shops in Indy
