You know I always say a Ford in a Ford, Chevy in a Chevy, Mopar in a Mopar but I just ran into a deal on a fresh 3 duece 348. Has anyone done this swap that can spread some knowledge my way? Oh man that is going to look so fine in between those fenders. I am so fired on this just what I needed to get back into the shoebox. Ted
Yeah there used to be a 49 coupe that ran around town here with a 348 in it but has since changed hands and now has a smallblock in it. I never got to see under the hood when the 348 was in it.
It's true, now buy it and "Git "Er Done" and get some pics posted and come back tickling your keyboard when you are finished.
A friend of mine drove a 348 3bbl in a -49 merc, ran real good but the original merc 3speed od didnt like all that power.
I have a '61 348 in my '53 Ford car. Required some cutting on the oil pan but it fits in there, I used a saginaw 4 speed behind it.
You have already heard from a couple who believe it is a sin to mix engine and vehicle brands(except when it's ok). I guess I'm a heretic because my advise is to do what you want. It's not as though you contemplating a BB Chevy and TH 400 into a Bugatti Royale.
I have a 348 in my 28 ford sedan for the past 6 years and I love it. The sound the look all good. They say the best way to make a ford run is to put a chev in it. My avatar is the carb set up am am using now
I have a 348 with 3 x 2's going into my '32 sedan. The look of that extra width is unbeatable. Fit is good and we've just recessed the firewall/built tunnel/front floor to take a th350. For me it's a great combination and I have no regrets about mixing manufacturers.
It's good to hear all you guys liking them. I have a 348 on the back burner now due to money for my truck. I either hear they are great or not worth the powder to blow them up. I love the look and sound of them. That's enough for me. I say do it but I'm one of "them" too
Wider. longer and overall compared to a stock 283 with stock air cleaners lower. Engine and trans standard Chev Big block/Small block bolt patterns and placements. whack it in the 50. would have to be better style wise than a small block anything.
I'm going to ***ume you have a chev under the hood of your 56' so how about we reword the the remark I was responding to and see if you agree with what "They" say "They say the best way to make a chev run is to put a ford in it"
Kool score. that would look really *****in in there. I'd probably run around with the hood off for a few weeks! You may be able to get a "kit" get up for putting a SBC in a shoebox and do a few minor mods. Just sayin...
You bet on the small block "kit", exactly what I have planned. Ditto on the hood off. Something about the shoebox with no hood that I like. At least for a short while.
Hay, I now own that 50 Ford coupe in Spokane that used to have a 348 tripower in it. The story goes it came to Spokane in mid to late sixties out of California. it had the 348 in it. mild kustom! louvered hood, Chromed and louvered interior garnish moldings, chromed inner fender wells. The car was traded in for a VW bug because it got better gas mileage in around 68'. The next owner bought it from a car lot and pulled the 348 out put in a small block chevy. My buddy John G. ended up with it in the 80s. someone gave him the very 348 tripower that was once in the car. I currently own both. I am not sure if I want to put it back in or put a flathead back in it? anyway I thought I would share that little didy If anyone has any history on the this car it would be interesting to here it. the coupe currently runs a 327 sbc in it. Thanks,Korey
Hey Korey, thanks for posting. I was going to try and get a hold of you and see if you could tell me what it looked like was done to make this swap work. I knew you had the car in fact I saw it at the little show in Millwood years ago. I met you years ago when you worked out Extreme. Anyway thanks for posting. Did they have to modify the pan at all? I will PM you. Ted
a local guy ran a sportsman green 50 ragtop with a 348 back in the mid 60s and used a dropped tie-rod to do the swap. dunno what trans or rear, but it was fast!
