I have been looking for a gas tank to put into my 41 Chevy project. A stock type tank won't fill the bill because my trunk pan is far from stock. A Tri Five tank looks like it will work well. I was wondering about the quality of the tanks made by Spectra vs. the other repop. tanks out there. The Spectra tanks are about $50 bucks more, but are they $50 better?
Not sure,I asked a similar question a while back and got a few replies then went ahead and bought the painted one with sending unit included from tomscl***ics on ebay for 100 bucks then came back on here rite afterwards and some guy had replied and said his painted one rusted out in about year Im not sure if it may have rusted, but I seriously doubt it rusted out in a year. Mine seems to be good quality and is doing just fine so far
Normaly I would tell you to ask your question on the TriFive web site or Chevy Talk BUT I have recently done that with no real help. Asked the question here on the HAMB and got help instantly. If it were me I would order the cheap one and seal the inside with tank sealer, the outside with epoxy primer before install. Should last as long as you do............................
Not sure how much this will help but, I bought a repro gas tank for my 55 Chevy, and it is very good quality. However, I do not know who made it. It was purchased through Cl***ic Chevy Club, (back when it was still a club), and it was Made in Canada. I also put a new repro tank in my 59 Chevy, from the same place, with the same results....Very good quality, and Made in Canada. Once again, I do not know wwho manufactured it.
Spectra Premium, best quality gas tanks and rads etc., and yes, made in Canada rather than somewhere offshore. http://ecat.spectrapremium.com/apps...tion=search_by_vehicle&module=product_catalog
I have sold and used Spectra Premium tanks and radiators for 15 years and always found them to be of good quality.
