Really sad to hear that about the girl. The victims are usually innocent.:(

I wonder if that teen fell asleep coming down from an energy drink high? Those things are dangerous.

Sending good thoughts that everyone makes it through. I agree Farmergal. Its a very sad accident. Remeber that if both cars are going 50 mph it hit head on is the same force as hitting a wall at 100 mph. Hug your family.

  7. I'm an old fart but I also have a young daughter and I could only imagine what's going through this little girl's family. As much as I like these old cars, they're rolling death traps. Even if you're the best driver in the world, you can't avoid careless drivers like this. I would never let my daughter ride in a car like that unless I could properly secure her safety booster seat in it.
Most cars of the early 60's already had provisions for installing seat belts in them even if they didn't have them installed at the factory. My '63 Riv did and I installed lap belts in it. The '51 Caddy I had, the PO had installed belts in the car because they used it a DD and took their kids in it. Problem with the install was that they were just attached to the floor sheet metal with just big sheet metal screws. Lucky they never had any crash with the car. What a false sense of security.
My heartfelt prayers go to the little girl's family. As for the teenager, I hope he never drives again. Idiots like that belong on the bus. I hope he has nightmares every night about this for the rest of his life.

Well from what Ive seen while driving in the frozen tundra with my 41 chevy, Is most drivers I see seem to not give a SH^T about anyone else on the road. There are alot of assh@le drivers too! I cant even count how many times Ive been tailgated when I was already going faster than the posted speed! That really pisses me off. I hope the little girl pulls through because my girlfriend was in a wreck and has a brain stem injury, it ain't no fun believe me.:(

very sad. hope she pulls through. Ive seen some pretty massive injuries on people who stay in a coma for awhile before they start to awaken. The body is healing itself and I am sure that she is getting the best medical care possible. Prayers to them. Time heals and hopefully she will come around :/

  12. Best wishes for EVERYBODY involved. Prayers to the families and victims of this terrible situation.

Sometimes I wonder where some of you are coming from. I didn't read anywhere that the driver of the toyota was drunk. on drugs or driving like an ass. How many of us, As adults, Have climbed behind the wheel of your car in a compromised condition I.E. Tired, sick, angry or after having "Just a beer or two"? How many of you answer your cell phone while behind the wheel? All of these actions have to potential to put you in the same position as that kid. Now think back to when you were 17 and the things you did everyday.

Do any of you think that kid isn't hurting over this ACCIDENT?

I truely feel for this little girl. It makes my heart ache to hear things like this. I feel for her family having to sit and wait to see what Gods decision for this child is.

This teenagers life is hanging on this decision too. There may not be any legal repercussions aside from civil liability, However, This youngster has to live with this the rest of his life.

Any of you that are sitting behind your keyboard with your "drag him behind the car" attitude need to think to yourself, "What if this was my son that did this"? Would you still want to drag him behind the car?

If this crash involved 3 toyotas.. Would you even be thinking about these people?

Again, Best wishes and prayers to all involved.

Any update on the little girl's or her grandparents condition(s)?
I know it's playing Monday Morning QB, but, she DEFINITELY should have been in a booster seat.

  14. I'll admit that I felt the same, be tough on the kid attitude, when I first read this, but have thought it through. In this case the guilty may have been a victim as well. What if "he fell asleep" description by the media was actually a case of passing out due to the onset of some deeper medical issue. Words can damage. Accidents do happen. Shame on me for my initial thoughts.

I wish full recovery to everyone involved.

    Doug.

It gives me a pain in the gut when kids get hurt in accidents, just isn't right. Prayers for all involved, can't be easy for anyone.

54metalman, false statement that has been repeated over the years by those who haven't ever stopped to consider the simple physics involved.

  16. Healing vibes to all involved. I just went on a 300 mile cruz last sat. , did not fasten my lap belts once, I am an idiot. This stuff happens so fast from nowhere, I am buckling up to go to the grocery store from now on. ~sololobo~

  17. I agree. There have been times in my past where I worked many a 12hr shift and had to drive the 72 miles home at Midnight down pitch black rural roads. There were times when I was so damn tired that I would be punching my thighs as hard as I could just to stay awake. If anyone would have been coming in the opposite lane, I would have surely caused a head-on. I feel for everyone involved, including the 17yr old kid that has to live with this for the rest of his life. My son turned 16 in March, and although he doesn't have his license yet, these stories scare the shit out of me. I refuse to automatically give him his license until I see him show me some responsibility and situational awareness. I'm not going to pass judgement on the 17yr old, but I see many young drivers out there who are more concerned with the radio, cel phone, and texting than driving. I pray this kid isn't one of those, and this is just one of those unfortunate wrong place/wrong time things that break our hearts to hear about.

My dad was driving the red 40 Chevy. I heard this thread was on here. The Toyota crossed over and hit the 51 Chevy. My dad tried to swerve into the other lane but the 51 Chevy was in the air and hit him as he was trying to get out of the way. My dad was the only one to walk away from it. The little girl and the grandma are still in a coma. The guy driving the 51 Chevy lost his leg. My dad said the girl and grandma were in the back seat. He helped get them out. The little girl was pushed under the front seat and the grandma was pinned between the seats on top of her. Everyone please pray for the grandma and little girl.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in that crash especially the little girl. I hate that the man lost a leg also. How awful.

I hope the young man learned something from that incident. I know that I would be eat up with guilt if I did something like that, and I will pray for him also.

Thanks for the update, I posted this to get the word out to more people, if some one hadn't told me about it I never would have known, since I missed it on the news.
I sure hope everyone will be ok. It's really a shame to see how much suffering comes from one small dumb mistake. Hopefully the young man has learned a lesson.

Would that lesson be, "don't fall asleep at the wheel"? It seems ridiculous to keep judging the kid.

Yes, that would be the lesson. I feel sorry for the kid, but if you're that tired, or if you're prone to fall asleep quickly, adjust your lifestyle, don't risk your life and the lives of others, that's the lesson I hope he learned. <that's a period:rolleyes:
