Hello from Illinois

Been lurkin here off and on for several years. Decided it was time to join! I've always liked old cars and racing but have to admit I've been away from the car thing for way too long. Looking to get caught up and maybe learn a thing or two. Did a little dirt track racin back in the day and that has influenced my taste in cars. Have a few vehicles for future projects (waiting for the right combination of time and money. Never seem to have both at the same time). One that is H.A.M.B. friendly is a 56 F100. That build is still a few years off but I have a good idea what I'm going to do.....2X3 tube frame (like an 80's style dirt late model), probably 428SCJ I have sittin in the garage unless I can find an affordable 427, or maybe even a MEL 430.
Recognize a few names on here from my main hobby/obsession which is collecting old gas station junk. Specifically gas pump globes.

Some buddies and I went up to Sycamore to the stock car races when we were in high school. 30+ years later I've been back a few times. It was like going back in time to the mid 70's! It was a good time.

 

You might want to check out the "shop talk" forum on oldgas.com. I used to be a mod over there. Lots of petro stuff turns up in the for sale forum there.

lol oddly enough, I was born and raised here(I'm 29) and have never been to bob jos. Just never had any desire, been to the Winners Circle next to the track for PBRs a bunch though lol. Maybe ill get out and watch some roundy round this season.

 

This is my 48th season around racing. Sycamore doesn't come close to having the best racing but it's fun to go there. It's kind of a redneck place and I'm fine with that. When I went there a couple years ago one of the first things I noticed is they had the same pace car they had on my previous visits 30+ years before! They'll probably have a big fireworks show on the 2nd.
