Hey there all! Ive done a search, Extensive online, but no luck. Only diagram I can find is '56 Truck OR '57 Car... no '56. All I need to see or know is the two wires at the solenoid and the two wires at the coil/ resistor. My car is all original, '56 Fairlane Town Sedan, 292, Automatic non overdrive. The Coil has a red wire and a brown wire. Once that brown wire has power the starter ingages? Also, the solenoid has the two prongs. It was unhooked ( As was the coil) When I got the car. The solenoid has a brown and a red wire also. So Far Ive been trial and erroring but seeing the proper wiring would be nice. When I first had the car hooked to a battery, as soon as you turn the ignition to ON it would crank... Ive since solved that riddle I believe.. haha. I just need to see which side of the solenoid the wires go and which wire at the coil goes to the coil, and which one to the resistor! Any help is appreciated, and any '56 Ford Car or Thunderbird or maybe even Merc should be the same!!
Is the solenoid new? If you're messing with the old one they will do that(stay stuck cranking the engine over) if they go bad.
Hit the auto parts store, MAKE them get the parts book out (You know, the one made from those icky old dead trees) and find the selenoid. I will bet a buck that their is also a diagram of what each post does on that selenoid somewhere in that book. Just a thought.
I hope this is is the info your looking for http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/56-ford-ignition-wiring-36315.html
Thanks guys! Yea the soenoid, and wires from starter and battery are all new and from MAC's.. Biggest issue are the two wires at the coil, the solenoid issue has been solved, it was just backwards when I first tried it.. ha! And awesome '61 Fairlane, I'll check to see that mine is wired like that post and try again. Appreciate the super speedy help guys!
