After driving 23 hours, through rain, Boston traffic and ****py northeast roads, we picked up 34 Ford cab #3. Bought it at a pretty good price on Ebay just to get the drivers door, but after getting it, it has a better top and rear panel than either of my other cabs, so I (OK, my better half) feels better about what I had to pay for it! Here's some pics, dig the supersweet bubblegum welding someone started to do to fill in some holes. TOP notch, I tell ya The doors are solid, other than the bottoms, and the door posts are good....pretty much all I care about.
Pretty nice lookin cab. You goin fenderless? What kind of frame, engine etc.? Is your other cabs also '34s. I'm lookin for a back for one of mine too. I would prefer a '32 or '33 though. If you decide to sell anything I might be interested. Good luck with the project and keep us posted. Later Count
Yeah that one looks nice,I need a "new" cab...let me know if you want to sell one cab and a pair of doors you dont use.
Very fenderless, yeah. Channelled 5", chopped 5". Frame is built from 5" "c" channel, bent to some pretty weird dimensions so that it pokes through the body where I think it should Raked a lot in the front and kicked up a lot in the rear. Here it is before completion in the frame jig. I will get some done pics of the frame soon. 327 SBC for power, should look perio dcorrect for what I'm doing. I p***ed up a very cheap baby Desoto hemi while picking up the cab, but I was very unsure how reasonable it is to get parts for the small hemi motors (278 I think it is?? I know nothing about hemi stuff) I do have two more backs, both are 34, both are salvagable, but only if you're REALLY determined.
Man you must be short. Looks like a great start though. Mine will also be fenderless, but will be on a '32 frame, chopped about 3", with a Tattersfield epuiped flatty. But then again I just got a good lead on a low mileage nailhead. So who knows.
Err, no. As luck would have it, I'm 6'1". We're building a pretty trick set of seats, and I suspect we'll have about a 2-3" heel pan in the floors. Or else, I'll have leg surgery.
I wish it were that easy as far as a pair of doors goes...the only reason I even bought this one was to get a drivers door. Somehow I've ac***ulated 3 p***enger doors, and until now, zero good drivers side ones.
I'd be interested in your roughest p***enger door. Need something for a pattern to make some. thanks, Doug
Err, how rough is rough?? I've got one that is so gone it's not rebuildable, but it still has all of it's shape. My issues with it are that it is rusted all around the window openings, and that area is just too much work to make new panels for.....
