Great post ! you got to experience the days when your 40 coupe was a new car driving thru the Nevada and California deserts! I can still remember in 1944, Dad driving our 39 Pontiac cpe. from Chicago to L.A. tho 2 lane roads, windows down and a Desert water bag on the bumper. [before pressurized radiators] that desert is hasn,t changed one bit.

Toyota made these kinda in response to the XKE. Nice car but only a few hundred made. Nobody wanted a high-end sports car from Toyota at the time. Bond drove a convertible made especially for the movie in You Only Live Twice.

Red Car I was told was a 1969 or '70 2000 one of about 200 made.

  8. One would hope that people would have some respect for the ARDUN name and history, and not develop some tacky knock-off of the "real deal" for the SBC.

Which "Don' is doing these? Orosco or Ferguson? Either one should know better.

I hear that Highway 50 has more "character" (well....OK...there are several legal brothels along the way), but it is also called the "loneliest road in the world", so there are a few stretches where you'd better have enough gas in the tank. My friends tell me that there are a couple of cool mountain passes with good places to stop for a break.

I did some work at an automotive test facility that is off of Highway 50 about an hour's drive east of Carson City. I never had any reason to go farther east than Fallon NV, but it is pretty cool out there. By the way....the state troopers enforce the speed limit pretty closely in and around the small towns.

    Hope you enjoyed the In-N-Out!!

    Dan
