MY FRIEND HAS A MODEL A ROADSTER WITH A 331 LONG BELL HOUSING IN IT. HE HAD THE ORIGINAL AUTOMATIC IN IT FOR A WHILE. HE WANTS TO PUT a 4-SPEED BEHIND IT. WE KNOW ABOUT THE ADAPTER THAT HOTHEADS SELLS. WHAT ARE HIS OPTIONS? HE CANT FIND ANY USED ADAPTERS AND WANTS TO SAVE SOME MONEY.
Not to High-jack the thread...but I think this is a good opportunity....hope you dont mind.... I got a 392; I want to do the same, unless do you think I should stay w/ the stock automatic? where is a good place to look for stuff like this...adapters and such.
I am a machine designer at work and we run all caps as a standard on prints. I am just wanting useful car info, if I wanted to know the politicaly correct way to type then I would join a computer forum. By the way you probably dont want to run the stock automatic. It was sluggish and robbed alot of performance.
I wasn't too sure that you were still alive. Are you married yet? We may be building a car with a 331 as well, have one located, just need to buy it. It is in a 59 dodge truck with a 3 speed ******.
Hot Heads and Wilcap will have some options. You could try to search eBay for Speed Gems (was based in MN) adapters. I was able to find a Speed Gems adapter for a four bolt manual trans. Currently the bolt pattern is for a Packard but it also fit my Ford 4spd . My '53 331 has a PowerFlite trans attached and I had considered using it .... any experience? Best of luck papa al
just bustin your chops bud. i write in all caps, but don't type in caps. ;0 you'll probably find more extended bellhousing hemi to early ford than you would the later 4 bolt. get one of them off egay or at a swap meet and then get an early ford to 4 bolt from speedway or whoever.
